Buddha
Head Supported by a Banyan Tree March 19, 2001 The Thai kingdom of Ayuthaya was destroyed by the Burmese in 1763 and religious statues were hacked to pieces. One of the temples in the ancient city ruins, Wat Mahathat (built in 1374), contains an astonishing sight--a large dismembered Buddha head held in the roots of a banyan tree. |
