d. Mar. 26, 1888, near Burnettesville, Indiana His employer sent him home when
he was ill, but was worried about him and found him dead in a field. This Morris
family lived in a log cabin on the White/Cass Co. line on White Co. side. Son
Marion bought a farm. He, sister Grace, and brother Earl lived without electricity
and got their water from an outside pump. Marion and Grace remained single.
Marion was a carpenter and built an A-frame addition of a "run" (hall),
one parlor, and three bedrooms. This is where the Morris family antique organ
was. They had a water reservoir on the wood stove and helped raise Roy and Jennie's
kids including Bert. Sallie, Ronnie,
& Sherry (Bert's children) spent many Sundays here playing in the sand,
watching Uncle Marion's big white gline horse run around never running into
the fence or gate and playing on antique buggies. In the 1960's they moved to
Logansport where they had running water for the first time in their lives. They
all died there. Earl was married to Dorothy "Billie" Murray who was
an elephant trainer and bare back rider in the Haggenbach/Wallace Circus.

Harry and Charlie were in the army before WWI fighting battles on Mexican borders (1914-1915). Harry was gassed in WWI which ruined his lungs. Every Monday morning he walked from Bates St. to College St. to his sister, Jennie and helped her wash. They each took a basket handle, carrying it to the clothesline in the backyard. Harry would hand each piece to Jennie who hung them up.
For lunch Jennie fixed mashed pancakes which he loved. After dinner Harry would walk home. He sat in a big rocking chair on Grandma Reeser's front porch. When the children came around him he put a clean handkerchief over his face saying that he didn't know what was wrong with him--he didn't want the kids to get sick!
Charles had 4 children--Evelyn, Edna, Harley Raymond and Charles Harley was a parachuter in WWII. When we were living in Columbus, Ohio we got a telegram one night telling us that Harley was missing or shot down. I don't know why we got the telegram but it was scary!

Harley Ray ran away from home as a young boy to join the army. He was stationed in the south where be looked up his older brothers, Charley and Harry. They wrote their mother who wanted to have him sent home as he was underage. They all came home on leave then took the Pennsylvannia Railroad to camp and on to France. Harley Ray was found dead in the trenches after the armistice in Alsain, France. When his body arrived in Logansport his mother had to know it was her son. The funeral director and our grandfather, Roy opened the casket and looked. It was the Kid (that's what they called him!). He was 22.
