I'm second..

And I'll second that. I'm not in Bangkok at the moment, but by the time I move back there the subway should be on track. It will make a massive difference to the city.

I think the station logos are cool too.

I don't know, I've found that the stations look rather dull and dated. They could and should have built them flashier than this considering the time and budget they've consumed.

I personally don't like the idea of having logos of the station either. Kinda confuse the commuters, especially foreigners.

Khun Jeremy,

It maybe dull ... but only SOME some stations .... but wait and see after full opening on August 2004 ... Well, the tunnel across Rma IV Road have grobble much of the budget though ...

Well, the station symbols are for those who don't want to remember the station names .... However, they can make a better design of those symbles (except the case of Silom and Asko station which look just fine .... )

Khun Wisarut. Yes definitely, I should like to see if the stations will look any better when the system is fully operational.

And what do you mean by the tunnel across Rama IV street? Is that the walkway connected to sky train?

Cheers

You know... maybe it's subjective anyway, but I thought that the station entrances looked really cool, and modern. I also liked the way they fitted in with the design of the skytrain stations, which I also like.

Perhaps it's because I am comparing it to the sort of designs that are implemented here in Ireland. Ever seen a "Dart" station?

The symbols shouldn't confuse anyone; if you want you can just ignore them since the stations will have names too. Anyway like Khun Wisarut said already, it's not totally finished yet.

Khun Jeremy,

The section from Klong Toei to Hua Lamphong (Rama IV Road)
has to go parallel with the flyove, thus need to cut down the foundation pin of the flyover, and using the the roof of the underground stations and tunnels as the new supporting pin,
thus increasing the construction cost ...

Furthermore, some stations such as Silom and Samyan require stacking-type stations due to the narrow space ...

For the walkway to connect with Skytrain stations, it is
not done yet since the payment for the construct is not settled...

Ticketing

Does anyone know which technology will be used for the Subway ticketing ? Will it use magnetic tickets like the Skytrain ?

Will there be any interoperability between Subway, and Skytrain ? And why not with buses as well ??

Thanks.

Marseil.

I am not sure. But i've read from somewhere that they will use smart card. so we don't even have to take a ticket out of our pocket, just walk pass by and the machine will open the door for us automatically.

I am sure that there will be. 2bangkok in fact has many articles about this before.

Re: Tcketing

Hi Kiku,

Do you know what is the current stage for the project ? Is the technology choice frozen ? Or the subontractor found ?

Which entity should be in charge of the ticketing subject ?

Thanks.

Marseil.

Khun Kiku, Khun Marseil,

There will be a plastic token and a smart card system for subway system ... Token system is due to the condition attached on
the JBIC loan ...even though MRTA wish to use the magnetic system as Skytrain for system compatibility ...

However, the smart card system is the future ... which forces BTSC to install the smart card system (at least one gate for each side ---> initially at the first 3 interchange stations (Asok, Mochit, Saladaeng), important stations (Siam, Victory Monument, Chitlom, Ploenchit, Phromphong, Ekmai), and terminals (Saphan Taksin, National Stadium, Onnut, and Taksin Intersection [after 2004], Samrong Tai [after 2006]) ...

BTSC hopes that after the settlement on the revenue
clearing house, BTSC will be able to install the smart card
system without problems ... if the creditors approve such
a plan.

Who are you, guys?

Hi
I am a new member of this forum, I have found this site when I was applying for a job with BMCL and now I am one of its member to bring the Subway to its success in operations. Well, thanks to Khun Wisarut whose information helps me a lot in updating the news and environment information which is useful to my work.

One thing I always wonder... about the members... what are your profession? why do you have deep interest with the Subway operation in BKK? Well, nothing more that just curious.

Let's share the idea in the coming future then.

Cheers. Nihtan
