Red Shirt Rally in Samut Prakan

These are some of my pictures of the red shirt rally in Samut Prakan on Saturday 20th December 2008. There were about 2-3,000 red shirts which wasn't bad considering the short notice we received. The main speaker was the infamous Chalerm Yubamrung.

This next speaker is Jatuporn Phromphan, a well-known face from the Truth Today programme on NBT. Which, incidently has now been axed.

This is the ex-government spokesman Natthawut Saikua waiting to take his turn. He received a big applause when he went up on stage. Other than Chalerm, he was probably the most popular.

The guy on the right is Jakrapob Penkair and his face is well-known to foreigners as he is an excellent English speaker. He is also well known as that guy who was forced out of office after being accused of insulting King Bhumibol Adulyadej. I need to get it confirmed, but I think he is talking to Manit Jitjanklab, the former chief justice of the Criminal Court.

You can read my report of the rally at thai-blogs.com. My report of the previous red shirt rally in Samut Prakan is here. There was nothing about this in the English language newspapers, but there was a three minute report on a Thai tv news that evening.

I think the main reason for this rally was to introduce Arunlak Kitlertpairoj (second from left in this picture). She is the wife of ex-Deputy Commerce Minister Songkram Kitlertpairoj. He was banned from politics and she will run in the by-elections in Samut Prakan on January 11th 2009 as his nominee. That is his own words in the local newspaper. She was the worst speaker there and had to read from notes. Luckily for us, she only spoke for a few minutes.
