Settlement on the 2 New Station in Thonburi side of BKK
Manager Online - nov 7, 2005 Those who ride BTS between from S6 (Saphan Taksin) to S8 station (Taksin Road) would have to pay 10 Baht while there will be No 10 Baht surcharge will be applied after riding from S8 to station beyond S5 station (Surasak) This extension would facilitate the existing passengers while adding the extra passengers of 50000 passengers a day. BTS is ready to provide all the avaiable rolling stocks for Taksin extension. 1) Even though Taksin extension may cut down the numebr of passengers at Saphan Taksin by 10000 passengers a day, the compensation from 50000 old and new passengers from Taksin extension is a big boon to BTS. 2) BTS would have to negotiate with SCB, IFC,and KfW that Taksin extension of 2.2 km would add extra revenue from the current 8 milion Baht a day ... 5 million Baht is just enough to pay the loan interest andthe otehr 3 milion if for electric bill, maintianace, salary or so. ... Not enough to cover the principle. The extra revenue from Taksin extension as well as further extensions would enable BTS to pay the principle of 50 billion Baht. 3) BTS isgoign to use the reserved 2 sets of rolling stock to run Taksin extension ... so the operating rollign stocks woudl be 33 sets from 35 sets ... nearly reach the limit. 4) The 2nd phase of Taksin extension to Bang Wah would force BTS to run at full capacity ... new sets of rollign stock NEEDED. |

Can anyone advise on the practicality of extending from Saphan Taksin. I recall it is a single platform station - will it convert to dual platform or will it be closed as originally rumoured?

Nope,NOT at this time ... Only after the traaffic build up that compells BMA and BTS to remove the old Saphan Taksin station and rebuild the new one as replacement.

I wonder how BTS can manage the 2 minutes' headway of Silom Line when their train is to wait at Taksin Station to switch the track.
It must be 4-5 minutes' headway?? I see no vacant space to expand S6 station. I thought they would use S5 and S7 and leave Taksin Station non stop. Or perhaps khun Wisarut has new data. |

Khun Nekochan,
Well, they will keep S6 alive and well ... by stopping there due to the fact that it connects with Sathon Pier .... ![]() |

Sathorn Station
It would be quite stupid to abandon Sathorn station. Even if losing, maybe,
10,000 cross-river pax, it is still an interchange point of utmost importance to the express boat service, the hotel feeders and locals. More passengers could be netted, if somebody could persuade or force BMTA to locate bus stops near the station entrances and not half-a-kilometer away either side. Single track operation is not uncommon, although, admittedly, rather unusual at a modern transit system. Yet with a rush-hour 3-minute headway, like on Sukhumvit Line, a, say, 30 sec station dwelling time and modern computer signalling technique, it can be handled. In case of occasional delays, the outbound train would be the one to wait, with negligable consequences. Trains at the same platform for different directions? That's a minor technicalty subject to proper information-systems. A bigger protential problem at Sathorn is the length of the platform which cannot presently accommodate 6-car-trains. But it seems there is some time to go when 6-car operation will be a daily feature.

The Junta Strikes Back!
Now it's just possible that this is yet another piece of political skulduggery. One of the owning family of the Chao Phraya riverboats used to be a famous Bangkok 'khunying' with some radical & controversial views. The sort of thing that would not endear her to Cryptofascists like old 'Thickskin'. Can't remember her name, and I suspect she's already dead; but these powerful families are very set in their ways. And this junta has a long-term rep for 'dissing' anyone who wants to discuss stuff.
It would be a piece of cake to foul up a Ferry/BTS interchange in order to punish the ferry folk. What other conclusion can we draw when the junta itself talks about punishing folk for not being receptive to their blackmail. Last edited by GWR; 14-11-05 at 12:24 PM.. |

The plan for hiring BTS to deal with Taksinstation is the ticket roate, the contract payment the revenue sharing and the breakevent period which willbe described in details oin Nov 21, 2005 |
