My version of a misspent youth was running around after my parents doing electioneering for the unelectable. One of the biggest hoots was watching Jeremy Thorpe entertaining South Walian miners in a Miner's Institute. An interesting & amusing interaction to say the least. I met most of the big Libs at that time at one time or another. And my old college tutor has just been made a Liberal peer.

In all fairness, I think this result is a fairly good reflection of the current Brit psyche. Proportional Rep seems just as necessary now as it did back in the 70s, but I can't see the two party mafia allowing it any time soon.
