Almost finished reading "Burma- the Longest War 1941-1945" by Louis Allen. Great read of about 700 pages.
Once again I've come across reference to an Operation Roger
"The Chiefs of Staff worked on the assumption that Rangoon would be in British hands before 1 June [1945]. On that basis, they had authorized an operation to seize an island off the Kra Isthmus as a stepping stone to Malaya. The island was called Phuket, and some wag on Mountbatten's planning staff, with a rudimentary sense of humour and an inadequate knowledge of the romanization of Siamese, christened it Operation ROGER. After ROGER was to come ZIPPER, a landing of four or five divisions in the area Port Swettenham - Port Dickson on the west coast of Malaya, in October 1945. The next stage, MAILFIST, was the capture of Singapore, as soon as possible after the success of ZIPPER"
None of these operations was carried out due to the surrender of Japan.
Also planned was an Operation Bibber for the reoccupation of Siam in August-September 1945.
Never been able to find much detail on either Roger or Bibber.
Anyone able to help or perhaps recommend some books.
Thanks in advance
