I saw this article in today's The Nation and at first thought it might be in the Khlong San area, but that's way up north...........anyone have news on a forthcoming bridge in Sipraya / Khlong San area????
Subway plan includes new Chao Phya bridge
Published on April 12, 2005
Construction of a new bridge over the Chao Phya River will be included in the Mass Rapid Transit Authority’s (MRTA) Bang Sue-Bang Yai subway project.
“This will quicken the bidding and the construction process,” Therdpong Setthamanop, director-general of the Highways Department, said yesterday.
The bridge will be constructed next to Rama III Bridge, where the subway route will cross. Earlier, the MRTA proposed taking over the project and to shoulder all the costs, as well as designing the structure and handling its auction.
The Highways Department has decided to design the bridge, but the MRTA will handle the auction.
Therdpong said the decision to involve the MRTA in the project was in line with the government’s policy of having state agencies forge closer ties whenever a huge infrastructure project was involved.
The Metropolitan Waterworks Authority and the Metropolitan Electricity Authority have also passed their work for the bridge onto the MRTA.
The bridge will be built parallel to Rama III Bridge, from Rattanathibet Road to Bang Yai on the Nonthaburi side. It will have six lanes, compared to Rama III Bridge’s four.

The Nation Correspondents have DELIBERATEDLY messed up
the news about the new Bridge.
It should be called "Phra Nanklao Bridge" instead of Rama III
paralleled with Bangkok Bridge.

Got to get my names down.......to me Bangkok Bridge is Saphan Khrunthep which is near the Marriott the next bridge south of Saphan Sathorn (Taksin). But the subway bridge would not be down there.........??? Thanks for your advise on this, cheers...
Got to get my names down.......to me Bangkok Bridge is Saphan Khrunthep which is near the Marriott the next bridge south of Saphan Sathorn (Taksin).Correct. But the bridge mentioned in the newspaper article will be built next to Phra Nangklao Bridge in Nonthaburi (along Rattanathibet Road) as part of the Bang Sue-Bang Yai Purple Line construction. As Khun Wisarut stated, The Nation got the name wrong. *sigh*
What you apparently allude to with "Si Phraya/Khlong San" is the old idea to use Phra Pokklao Bridge (the one next to Memorial Bridge=Saphan Phut=Rama I Bridge) for the Blue Line extension, as the middle part of it was originally intended for the tracks of the cancelled Lavalin Skytrain project. (See this link (http://www.2bangkok.com/2bangkok/Subway/news012.shtml) -- scroll down to article "Golden land at subway stations and future route plans".) However, according to the current plans, the Blue Line will more likely be realized with a tunnel under the Chao Phraya River further to the west.
On the other hand, a bridge between Si Phraya and Khlong San will be needed for the SRT Red Line from Hualamphong via Wong Wian Yai to Mahachai.
And then there's of course the southern part of the Purple Line towards Rat Burana that will likely cross the river in the vicinity of the Memorial Bridge, though I have no idea how they plan to do that and whether reviving the trackbed on Phra Pokklao Bridge is an option. Rather a tunnel, I think.
All this is best to be seen on K. Chatchawal's excellent Bangkok Mass Transit Maps (two PDF files are downloadable from this page (http://www.2bangkok.com/2bangkok/MassTransit/map/map.shtml#2) ).

Yes that is the one I am most interested in as I live in Khlong San and have heard some rumblings about a new bridge. I downloaded K. Chatchawal's Bangkok Mass Transit map yesterday----excellent piece of work-----it show's two lines crossing from Si Praya to Khlong San just about where I live. Could one of these be indicating the existing ferry boat service and the other a future bridge. I have not identified the lines according to the legend, confused with the colors. Any clarification on this would be greatly appreciated.

The grey lines crossing the river show a couple of planned additional road bridges.

I think the alignment of the bridge starts from Sri Phraya to Charoen Ratt in Thonburi. It may be 4 lane divided with another paralel bridge for SRT.
I thought they would build only the rail bridge?
For MRTA southern line, it will be tunnel from the Grand Palace to Ban Yai. And I wonder whether Purple line will go undergriund, too

Wow, that's what I was really thinking. Any thoughts on construction time period? Where it the best place to attempt research on this bridge/road plan??
