Some rather dated CIA maps of Thailand on this site. Unfortunately, no historic images. On both pages, you'll have to scroll down about half a page to get to the material referred to here.

Definitely check out the homepage, which has many 'tsunami' links.

Some fascinating stuff in here. For just a starter, note that Thailand appears to control four northern Malay states. And one island in Phattalung is labelled Pulo Tantalam. To the best of my knowledge, Tantalum is a mineral related to tin, used in electronics production. It was mined in Phuket until about 20 years ago until the locals (under the instigation of a currently respectable politician) torched the refinery. (I guess pollution & dust were the problem.) No surprise that the Scots put a mining angle on things.
Well, it is a place frequently visited & usually well-regarded by Bangkok residents.
Note Mount Ophir (Ledang) on the north-east extremity. Subject of Malay mythology and a recent Malay movie.

Not exactly entirely appropriate, but forgive me for doing this one in remembrance of my own father flying over 'the hump' into WW2 China.
