So I was stuck in traffic near Victory Monument yesterday (at rush hour I hate living in Din Daeng  ) and happened to notice that the Baiyoke Tower 2, formerly home to giant DTAC and Standard Chartered ads, now seems to have added some floodlighting at the top and a large red LED-style "9" at the very top of the building. It took me a moment to realize the meaning -- countdown to Chinese New Year? Another Dome/Vertigo copy opening up? - but then of course it hit me: 'twas a beacon of hope, broadcasting the joy of Thai Rak Thai to the masses. Perhaps after the election they can change it into fiery floating eyeball watching over Bangkok like Sauron in LotR...

Unfortunately we don't have a Frodo Baggins to slay it!

Thanks for bringing it to everyone's attention!

It's almost a bit Orwellesque. Maybe in the future we can also have "Thaksin is watching you" posters everywhere? (Or should it be Big Maew is watching you?)

Of course!

Thanks, as I see the red glowing 9 every night but assumed that it was for Chinese NY.

The building has the display 'Long Live the King' at the start of every Dec, which becomes a countdown to the NY but this is the first time I have seen an ongoing number posted beyond a few days after the NY.

It is a bit all a bit Orwellian as ncr rightly says.

From Siam Stn for all the communters waiting for BTS to On Nut or Mo Chit it must be somewhat influential.

Perhaps, there is a TRT 'mind beacon' at the top of the tower as well.......

Does anyone have a photo of B2 at night with the big '9'? Interesting to see what it looks like.

Admin, I am glad that you already have a photo as I was going to take one last night for Pas.

When I left my apartment, in Pratunam area, about 9pm the big, red 9 was there as it has been for the last month. However, when I returned at 2am it was switched off.

Tonight, I find that it remains off.
