26 airports nationwide face 50% terminal and landing fee reduction
Minister of Transport Santi Promphat (สันติ พร้อมพัฒน์) has approved a 50 percent reduction in airport terminal and landing fees by the Department of Civil Aviation at 26 airports throughout the nation. Aircrafts using 3 airports in the southern border provinces will be exempt from all terminal and landing fees for a period of 6 months in accordance with the government's "6 months, 6 policies" mandate. The measure is effective as of August 2 and is aimed at aiding airlines facing rising fuel costs.
The Minister of Transport reveals that negotiations are also underway to reduce airport terminal and landing fees at Suvarnabhumi (สุวรรณภูม) Airport. Mr. Santi said that despite the Ministry of Transport's jurisdiction over the Airport of Thailand company, negotiations are necessary in order to minimize the impact on shareholders of the publicly traded company. He adds that fee reductions at Suvarnabhumi are unlikely to exceed 5 to 10 percent.
Airports which face 50 percent terminal and landing fee reductions include those in Sakon Nakhon, Khon Kaen, Trang, Nakhon Phanom, Nan, Pitsanulok, Phrae, Mae Hong Son, Lampang, Loei, Surat Thani, Udon Thani, Ubon Ratchathani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Krabi, Chumphon, Tak, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buri Ram, Petchabun, Roi Et, and Ranong provinces.
