Transport minister says political problems might affect investment in electric train plants
Transport Minister Santi Phromphat (สันติ พร้อมพัฒน์) says the present political situation might prompt investors to delay their plan to invest in electric train assembly plants in Thailand.
The minister says the transport committee of the parliament is interested in the double track project of the State Railway of Thailand and suggests that the government should expedite the construction of nine electric train routes. The minister expects that the electric train projects will motivate people to use public transportation services and help each vehicle save about 10,000 baht a month.
As for the ministry’s project on the construction of electric train assembly plants, Mr Santi says the ministry has cooperated with the Ministry of Industry in this project. Although many Japanese investors have paid interest to invest in the assembly plants, the minister says the instable political situation is an important factor affecting the investors’ decisions. However, the minister affirms the government will continue with other mega projects as planned.
