MiniVDO: Power providers promise more stable electricity in Phuket
Phuket is the only southern province which has an automatic control centre which is able to identify locations of power cuts on the main lines and this leads to quicker remedies. This is part of the Provincial Electricity Authority’s operation to improve service efficiency. The assistant governor on operation from the PEA Chokjun Sukanthapreuk also revealed that the PEA investment to reinforce the power supply for Phuket Island is included in its development plan. Construction of Karon and Thalang power relay stations are also scheduled to be completed in 2011. It is also talking with Patong Municipality to put power cables underground, but there is not much progress on the project so far. He also pointed out that the power black outs are often caused by falling trees or cash crops which he seeks public cooperation to ask the PEA staff to help cut or trim their branches to prevent the problems.
