According some Thai railway experts, we need

1) At least 100 New Locos of at least 2500 HP type,

2) 200 sets of the 2nd Aircon Sleeper Carriage,
3) 500 sets of the 3rd Aircon Sleeper Carriage,
4) 40 Sets of Aircon Diesel Railcar (20 carriage/set),
5) 300 Sets of BCFs

6) Furthermore, At least 70 ALSTHOM Locos and 20 GEK Loco must be
in perfectly servicable ... not the CRIPPLINGLY Servicable as they are
right now.

I agree - but who's gonna pay for this?

Would it be a good idea to check through the decommissioned stock of coaches, engines, dmus to see how much of it could be refurbishbed in own
workshops, with own labour and own material? In the past, SRT could do such
jobs.

how about buying some 2nd hand rolling stock from queensland australia or japan or even old standard gauge stock and regauge it have to check if it will fit the loading gauge. if standard 1435mm gauge stock will fit on this system after the wheels are regauged to 1000mm then thailand has a very large choice of 2nd hand stock from all over the world.

that might help to reduce this cost of upgrading the fleet although some work may be needed on the old stock to bring it up to standard

just be careful using 1600mm broad gauge stock as this does not fit the loading gauge of the standard gauge systems.

Regauging the Japnese rollign stock to fit into Thai railway system is so EASY for those workers in Makkasan that .... but they need to learn mroe how to properly maintiana the pwoer cars because even toway we have NEVEr order power cars and put them in regular usage ....

Therefore, the next major batches of 2nd hand rollign stock for SRT would mainly come from JRs . even though Queensland could offer their meter gauge version of rollign stocks .... :p

Too bad, Indonesian BCFs from INKA FAILED to pass the examination on shock absorber as well as the vibration testing ....

However, this would require Powerful loco of GEA and Hitachi and ALSTHOM to handle those heavy passenger and cargo carriages. The loco shortage still exist .... so 2nd hand loco of at least 100 diesel electric locos are in need ....

Just look in what state the dmus and coaches are which which were obtained from JR West in excellent second-hand condition, engines and aircons ripped off the dmus, aircons not working anymore in the coaches. Now they are almost all in a state of neglect, instead of being used to their potential of good-quality transport. The two sets of ex "blue trains" probably look at a similar fate. I believe Makkasan workers lost their skills or their enthusiasm and/or funds are not made available

Well I'll be 'a monkey's uncle' as they say, but I know not much about railways and less about this.

http://qldrailheritage.com/oq/thai-sx.htm

Seems the Aussies sold/gave/flogged a couple of trains to Thailand a few years ago.

I'm sure it is old news to Thai rail fans but perhaps someone would be kind enough to provide an update.

Were they suucessful? Still operating?

Amazing Thailand and Amazing Google

Very fine Airlane, and nobody shall blame you for such a late discovery.
What means succesfull within the SRT, they are usefull nothing more, and running the 'Bangkok area commuters' as more or less run downed coaches.
By the time of purchase to linger a shortness in rolling stock and by no means a hinder for the commuters (persons this time) flocking in and out the city daily. Instead of looking in the air, take a strole on the Hua Lamphong yard and for sure you'll discover some. ;)
The Dutch did doing there part as well: Motor Vessel " Lindengracht. " I am not familar with the shipping business but for sure it must be one of the (Dutch) companies still operating in the wake of the famous VOC = Verenigde Oostindische Compagnie (United East Indian Company). We - the Dutch - called what's Indonesia today: Indië and this country had nothing to do with that other country: India.

Khun Bob, Khun airlana,

Those Queensland Passenger carriages have been used for Commuter trains (BKK - Ban Phachi) ... with quite successfull though ... They are still in commuter services (BKK - Ban Phachi -> 90 km) :) ;) :p

Here is a photo of Queensland Passenger carriages taken by Khun Num Nakhon Lampang:

Khun Nakkhon lampang told me that there are 21 Queensland Carriages deliverred to SRT in 1995.

Now, the following are the comment on Queensland Carriages in Thai railway services:

REF: http://portal.rotfaithai.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=375

Many of commuters have give a nick for this type of carriage as
"Chicken coops carriage", "Stainless carriages" ...

SRT has given a code for this type of carriages (15 SXs and 6 SXVs) as "BTC601 - BTC621"

Former SXs: BTC 602-606, BTC 609-613, BTC 616-620
Former SXVs: BTC 601, BTC 607-8, BTC614-615, BTC 621

Aftger reveivign these Queensland carriage from BKk Port on 22 August 1995, they had been tested on BKK - Chiang mai route ... after being modified to fit into Thai railway systems ...

After the that, these carriages have been used in Commuter 313/314 (BKK - Ban Phachi) and 371/372 (BKk - Chachongsao) ... This type of carriage has soem problems whcih can be described as follows:

1) poor ventilation due to small windows whcih are very hard to be opened ...
2) when this type of carriabges was coupled with the regular BTCs, it has a problem on braking when the train stop due to the fact that the main reservior of air brake inside that Queensland carriages work FASTER than the main reservior of air brake inside the regular BTCs

To be fair, manby have commend that the Air Brake system of Queensland Carriages is BETTER than the Air Brake System of the regular carriages ... due to the less design complication of the air break system.

Therefore, the probelm is due to unsynchronized air brake system.

Donated Japanese railway carriages to arrive in June

BANGKOK, Feb 25 (TNA) – Eight Japanese-made railway carriages donated by the JR-West Japan Railway Co. to the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) are expected to arrive here in June, while the remaining 24 carriages will be shipped by the end of October, according to SRT acting governor Thavil Samnakorn.

The decision to accept the grant of used rolling stock trains from Japan was made during a SRT board meeting on Friday, Mr. Thavil said, adding that SRT would spend about Bt128 million to renovate and adapt the carriages for service in Thailand.

SRT officials are scheduled to travel to Japan next month to discuss details of shipping the trains to Thailand, he said.

Some adjustments are expected to be made for station platform access, for example, and for connecting with existing SRT locomotives and carriages.

SRT will first enquire the state-run Thai Maritime Navigation Co., Ltd. whether it could transport all the 32 carriages to Thailand and, if not, then it would announce bidding for private transport in the next two months to bring the carriages to Thailand.

Although the rolling stock is used, the carriages are in good condition and are expected to provide service for 10 to 15 years on the northern and southern routes. SRT believes expenses on renovation could be recouped within the next four years. (TNA)
