Dear Khun Wisarut,

a really mysterious line this Suphan Buri Line. You mentioned the new(?)Commuter no.355 to Suphan Buri and that is really curious. There used to be a EXP DRC train with the same number 355 which departed to Suphan Buri at 16:40 from Hualamphong. So here are some questions for that line:
1)Does the EXP DRC no.355 still exist and if,which train number
has this train now?
2)From which track does COM no.355 leaves at Hualampong(just to
update my own records)?
3)I have seen lots of wonderful photos of Suphan Buri station and
the Malai Maen stop on the excellent www.rotfaithai.com webpage
but even in their lists there is no km given for that stop.It
would be absolutely helpful to have the exact km for that stop
for the planned Thailand Railway Map of Mr.Dick van Spek.
4)If train no.355 runs in the early morning to Suphan Buri, when
does the train return to Bangkok? Will the unit be stored at
Suphan Buri during the night to perform a double unit for the
EXP DRC no.356?Or does the train runs back empty to Bangkok?
5)Another mysterios train on that route is a SPEC no.913 with a
shown departure on Saturdays at 06:30 from track 11 at Bangkok,
coupled together with SPEC no.909 to Nam Tok and SPEC no.911 to
Suan Soan Pradipat up to Nong Pla Duk Junction. No one seems to
know if this secret train really runs or if it is just a
timetable fiction of the SRT,as this train is clearly shown in
the departures for Hualamphong, but one can't find anything
about that train in the tour programmes of the SRT and even on
the very good rotfaithai.com photos pages there is no photo of
that train shown, although even the other two SPEC nos.921 and
929 to Khok Salung(Pa Sak Jolasid Dam Tour) are also shown
quite often with nice photos.
More questions on other threads.
All the best from Berlin from Volker

Well, Commuter 355/356 is actually a commuter train downgraded from
EXP DRC 355/356 ... In 1996, it used Daewoo DMU but currently it uses
2-unit THN ...

I'm not so sure about the track of that Commuter 355/356 at Hua Lamphong though ...

That double unit is stored at night in Suphanburi and the they will move to pick up those passenger at Malai Maen and then moving back to Suphanburi to start the Commurter 356 to BKK.

Hmm for that specail tourist trains, they have been couples until ti reach Nogn Pladuk and then they are separated to go on theri way and then go back to Nong Pladuk to recouple back to Hua Lamphong

However, the special trains to Suan Sonpradiphat and Namtok are nto that hard to find though ....

I think this is the special train to Suphan Buri, and the unde water tunnel
at Bueng Chawak in Suphan Buri is here:

http://www.rotfaithai.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=60

The schedule fo thids special tourist train is here:

Special 913(?)
Depart BKK: 6:30 AM
Arrive Nakhon Pathom: 7:45 AM
Depart Nakhon pathom: 7:58 AM
Arrival Suphanburi: 9:35 AM

Special 914 (?)
Depart Suphanburi: 4:45 PM
Arrival BKK: 8:10 PM

It wil cost you 590 Baht to go round trip though ...

For the case of Suphanburi - Malaimaen, it is 1500 meter (1.5 km) far away
... allow thsoe who live along malai maen road to ride this 355/356 commuter.

There used to be a mixed train from Suphan buri to Thonburi until 1996 and sugar cargo train [night train] to BKK until 1984

Dear Khun Wisarut,

thank you very much for your fast answer regarding Suphan Buri. There is still one question to be answered:What's the new train number of the former EXP DRC no.355 or does this service has been suspended?
Best wishes from Volker

Suphanburi line is NO longer run No. 355/356 as Express DRC (Daewoo) ... they use THN Railcar instead ...due to the lack of demands ...

Volker,

Regarding the KM for the Malaiman stop. "End of Track." It is at KM 141.5. I rode out there a couple of times when the Expr. DRC was running during the day. Great ride.

agree with above, I also remember there was for some time (I think when a certain Mr Barnharn was at the govmt....) a 2/daily express DAEWOO train to Suphanburi, which went beyond the station of that name to a halt at the main road and then came back. fare was a whopping 80 THB then (double the bus at the time). But at a time double as the bus takes, with very frequent tourminivans bringing you to home from BKK, no wonder noones uses the train here.

Dear Khun Wisarut and dear Tower 45,

thanks for the given information on the Suphan Buri service. Now after a while of strong thinking(sometimes one should really do this!)I've understood that the former EXP DRC 355/356 were just downgraded to a normal COM,of course with a significant change of rolling stock.I'm always a lit bittle confused with the old method of the use of the clock with a.m and p.m still, although this method is now commonly used only in the U.S.A.,as most of the other countries now do prefer the 24 hour clock, even the good old United Kingdom has changed it's timetables!
By the way the mentioned SPEC 913 departs from track 11 at Hualamphong, regarding the timetable it should be the first out of the three units,as the departure given for Nakhon Pathom is earlier than on the other two SPEC 909(to Nam Tok)and 913(to Suan Soan Pradipat). For all railway fans of the Suphan Buri Line this SPEC 913 on Saturdays(only!)is the only chance to see the section Nong Pla Duk Junction-Suphan Buri during day light!
Regarding the given km by Tower 45 for Malai Maen this is surely wrong,as Suphan Buri is already situated in Km 141.60 and Khun Wisarut mentioned that Malai Maen is 1500 metres away from Suphan Buri,so the correct km could be 143.10!
Another question:Though it's dangerous to visit Jamboree stop between Ban Plu Ta Luang and Sattahip, due to thick overgrown track and cobras or king cobras, maybe some of the former visitors can remember the kilometres position of this stop(even by the telegraph poles near the line)?

Maybe 141.50 is wrong and maybe it isn't. I took the KM off of the pole line at the very end of the line which is probably more accurate than the PTT.

According to SRT, the edn of Suphanburi line is at km 142 + 662 (at Malaimaen Stop)

BTW Malaimaen Stop (as well as the km of Nong Pladuk - Suphan buri line) is started from the old Thonburi station though .... If it is started from BKK Station, add 16 for the km form BKK) ....
This has effectely turns BKK - Suphanburi commuter lien into the longest commuter line in Thailand ...
