Khun DIck,

Yes, I could explain abotu the name of those statiosn and stop along SRT Commuter line whcih are STRETCHED from Hua Lamphong to Chachonegsao in the east, Lopburi in the North, Kaeng Khoi in the Northeast, Suphanburi in the Northwest (vai Southern Railway), Nakhon Pathom in the west, Ratchaburi in the Southwest ....

OH ... You should include the Mahachai section into the Commuter network even though it is STILL separated from SRT Network because there are 34 trips between Wongwian Yai and Mahachai and vice versa.

Preparing an english version I will also visit the archives in Amsterdam, (Tropen Museum and Institute of South East Asia) and look for old maps too. Together with the Wisaruts sources we hopely can make a full detailed map.

Khun GWR,

During the construction of Rama 6 Bridge, the French contractor had used ash and cinder as the way to stabilize the muddy ground ... which Thai railway workers had discovered later on durign the constrction fo concrete structure to stabilize Rama 6 Bridge in 1969.

Thai railway workers also found 1000 Pound Bomb dropped from British bombers durign WWII. When ordinance officers tried to defused the bomb, the chemical stuffs has oozed out of the bombshell ... so they had to ask
for the helicopter form RTAF to pick and drop that bomb into the sea at Sattahip.

I have in front of me a document I picked up years ago at the Library of Congress. It is called Notes on Thailand, and was published by the British government at The Government of India Press in 1943. In 80 pages or so it exhaustively describes the Railway system in Thailand, including locomotives, rolling stock, kilo by kilo description of all lines and resources, vulnerable points and how to sabotage, cranes, capacities, communications, etc. I am not sure if the members here have acces to this document or not, but if not it may be of interest because of the very detailed description it provides. Here is an example of the detail for the Southern line kilo listing:

35.0 Sala Wah Station. Crossing siding on right. Few rails. Between here and Wat Suwanaram Station (km. 40.0) concrete piles are being made and laid alongside the line for no apparent reason.

Regards,

John
