Gen. Suraphan has yet to investigate case of Gen. Somjet
Gen. Suraphan Phumkaew (สุรพันธ์ พุ่มแก้ว), the army’s inspector-general, says he has not received the order for him to investigate the case involving Gen. Somjet Boonthanom (สมเจตน์ บุญถนอม), the Director of the Defence Ministry’s Bureau of the Budget, after he allegedly tried to incite a coup during a press interview.
Gen. Suraphan says he is not aware of Gen. Somjet’s interview and he has not seen the order for him to look into this case.
Previously, Pol. Maj. Gen. Monthien Prateepawanit (มณเฑียร ประทีปวณิช), the head of the Office attached to the Commissioner-General, reported that Gen. Somject violated Article 116 of the Criminal Code after he gave a press interview and allegedly attempted to instigate a coup. However, Gen. Somjet responds that it is only a misunderstanding. He says he told the press that it would be impossible for the army to stage a coup at the moment.
