This is sillyness at its highest!

I was returning from HKG last evening when I am directed to the new Terminal 2 building to check in.

After passport control I then board the new Terminal 2 Link Train - however it only goes as far as Terminal 1 where one has to change to trains to the Gates served by Terminal 2.

If Terminal 2 is check-in for Gates 40-80 why on earth does the Terminal Link Train not service those gates?

Are you sure about this? Everything I can find on the Net -- which is not much -- indicates that it's the same train and there are three stops: T2, T1 East Hall and T1 West Hall.

Is does sound silly which would not equate with HKIA.

I have been through there twice this year but have yet to sue T2 so I cannot really comment but I do know the airport well and there is only the one line for the people mover. T2 check in is just directly opposite check in T1 with the Airport Line in between so I would think T2 uses the same people mover line?

Absolutely - I had to change trains as it indicates on the site you highlighted ....

Section 1: From the (Terminal 1) East Hall to the (Terminal 1) West Hall: 750m
Section 2: From the Terminal 2 to the (Terminal 1) East Hall: 430m (Only one-way journey is offered from T2 to the East Hall)

Thus upon departure on TG you check-in at T2, use the 'People Mover' to T1 (East Hall) then change trains to the 'People Mover' to T1 (West Hall) for Gates 40-44 which TG uses.

However, upon arrival at T1 (West Hall) you use the 'People Mover' to T1 (East Hall) and exit immigration and Customs in T1!

HKG has to be the only Airport I know where a flight arrives in one Terminal and departs in another without changing gates!
