Fire decimates 16 century hold buildings in Trad province

A fire in the Rak Khlong Bang Phra (รักษ์คลองบางพระ) community of Muang district in Trad province destroyed over 16 structures, each over a century old. The community was famed for its classic structures that have stood since the reign of King Rama the 5th and still display the architectural style of the time.

The blaze began in one of the centennial homes belonging to Mrs. Suriya Pianchoawna (สุริยา เพียรชาวนา) who was operating a beauty salon. No speculation has yet been made on how the fire was started. Governor of Trad Kaenpetch Chuangrungsee (แก่นเพชร ช่วงรังษี) revealed that over 100 fire fighters and volunteers, using over 10 fire trucks were called in to combat the fire.

Damages have been deemed inestimable at the moment due to the relic like nature of the structures that were destroyed in the blaze.

Police said fire swarmed the building rapidly because it was made of wood.

It took firemen about half an hour to control the flame.
