Singapore to build new airport

Hanoi Times – The Middle Airport Authority (MAA) and Changi Airports International (CAI) signed a memorandum of understanding o*n investing in the Phu Bai International Airport o*n February 26 in Hanoi, under the witness of S.R.Nathan, Singaporean President.

Mr. Chow Kok Fong, General Director of CAI, said that the airport is an important component of tourist infrastructure of the central Hue City and its environs. Through the project, CAI wants to share with Vietnam its experience in exploiting Changi Airport and others which were invested by CAI in all over the world.

Hanoi’s Infrastructure to be upgraded

Hanoi Times - Hanoi will have 3 big airports operating by 2020 namely: Noi Bai, Gia Lam and Bach Mai. o*ne more international airport is expected to be built in the Red River Delta.

This can be seen in the urban traffic adjustment to 2020 which Hanoi People’s committee chairman recently submitted Prime Minister for approval. Under this adjustment, Hanoi will expand the city's belt-road and develop the railway and road system, especially in the northern part of the city.

With the existing railway system, The Hanoi Station is the biggest traffic terminal of the city. Hanoi will develop the belt-railway toward Co Loa relic site (Dong Anh District), upgrade Ngoc Hoi - Yen Vien railway to an flightover railway. According to the expanded planning, there will be 8 metro lines connect downtown with the suburb.

It is estimated that there will be a motor boom by 2020 with 85% household using motor. Public transportation service is expected to meet 30% of the traveling demand by the year 2010 and 60% by 2020.

So far this year, Hanoi has signed a memorandum with JBIC( Japan) in building a 16km long underground railway. This project is expected to reduce the intense vehicle flow in the city and enhance public transport.
