Lt-Gen Myint Swe inspects progress of runway of Yangon International Airport

Yangon, 15 Feb - Accompanied by Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Hla Htay Win, Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Mayor Brig-Gen Aung Thein Lin and officials, Lt-Gen Myint Swe of the Ministry of Defence inspected measures being taken for extension of the runway of Yangon International Airport, this morning.
At the briefing hall, Deputy Superintending Engineer (Civil) U Kyaw Hlaing of Airport Construction Project Special Group-2 of Public Works and officials reported on progress in construction of the 3,100 feet long and 200 feet wide extended runway section to be connected with the original runway measuring 8,100 feet by 200 feet, extension of the taxiway section measuring 3,345 feet by 100 feet to be connected with the original taxiway measuring 8,100 feet by 100 feet, facts about the project and future tasks.
Lt-Gen Myint Swe spoke of the need for officials to construct the runway and taxiway meeting the set standards.
Lt-Gen Myint Swe and party viewed tarmacking of 5 inches thick asphalt concrete on the extended runway, placing of 12 inches thick concrete on the extended taxiway and progress of earth work.
Upon completion of the project, the runway will be 11,200 feet long and 200 feet wide while the taxiway, 11,200 feet by 100 feet. As a result, the air way transport facilities will contribute to smooth transportation of passengers by air and speedier flow of commodities at home and abroad.
So far, the earth road for the extended taxiway has completed by 84 per cent, the placing of 12 inches thick concrete on the extended taxi way by 4 per cent, construction of the concrete drains under the extended taxiway by 75 per cent, and construction of the concrete drains between the extended runway and the taxiway by 12 per cent.
