If you see the sign "Wor" during teh railway trip, that's the sing "Blowing Whistle" ... which have different kind of Wor Waen signs ...
1) The first one -> Wor Waen sign in the white circular sign of 2 Feet diameter. -> Common Locomotive whistle -> Look at the old delapidated Hatyai - Songkla lien as the example:
http://www.2bangkok.com/2bangkok/MassTransit/songkhla/rails04.jpg
2) The Second type -> Long Whistle -> for the crossing without the blocking to prevent the cars to be runover by the train.
http://www.yimsiam.com/cgi-bin/data/fanrotfaithai/pic/0001211.jpg
3) The third type-> for the crossing with blocking butno traffic light. http://www.yimsiam.com/cgi-bin/data/fanrotfaithai/pic/0001212.jpg
4) The forth one -> for the crossing wiht blocking and traffic light
http://www.yimsiam.com/cgi-bin/data/fanrotfaithai/pic/0001213.jpg
5)thefifth one-> the rarest -> the whiletle for the corssing with block but with only Railway traffic light to be seen.... befor blowign whistle.

Nice info, Khun Wisarut....
But can you also tell us what the "wor waen" stands for? What's the Thai word for "whistle"?
Wisarut
16-02-04, 12:23 PM
Wor Waen is letter "W" in Thai alphabet ....
It is a short name for "Whood Rotfai" (Railway Whistle)

Thanks for the information Wisarut. I've been wondering about this for a while, and the only thing that came into my head each time I saw those signs was 'Wor, what is it good for?' :D

Now the current status of these 2 types of Diesel Hydrolic Locos importedfrom Germany are as follows:
1) Henchel (3001 - 3027) -> ONLY 1 Loco still servicable, now at Surat Thani (under the administration of Thung Song Railway District). The other 7 stay idle at Bangsue Shed -> having to be cannibalized so as to keep the 2nd Spare Henchel Loco alive.
2) Krupp (3101-3130) -> ONLY 8 Locos still servicable -> 6 at Hatyai and the other 2 at Thonburi.
Even we have order some Diesel Hydrolic locos from China (CK5 Loco), they are all used for shunting TPI Cement Train (also imported from China) at Hin Lup. Darn Burnt it ... We should not sue that Chinese railway junk to deal with logistic stuffs at all ....

Khun Wisarut,
What is your meaning and goal by mentioning two old series of locomotives from Germany.
The six from the 3100 serie are refurbished and must be capable to run for some time in the future.

Khun von Hirschhorn ,
I just tell the current status of those Diesel Hydrolic Locos (3xxx series). Diesel Hydrolic is useful for going through the flood area and it generally runs much smoother than Diesel electric .... even though it is less efficiency than Diesel Electric locos.

Hallo everybody,
I am quite new here and I need the help of the Thai Railfans:
I was founder and chairman for many years of the Hannover
Tramway Museum and I am interested in SE-Asia culture and traffic history.
So I was asked from people who are writing just now a book about the history of HANOMAG (Hannover, Germany) if I can find out something about the wareabouts of the lokomotives 260 - 282, buildt in 1928/29.
Is one still existing as monument or in a museum or depot?
I will go in December for holidays to Thailand and Cambodia, so if something still exists I would like to make some photos.
Many thanks for your help Klaus

All Hangmag Pacific Locos have been decommissioned since 1968 even though SRT has sent a request to Hanomag in 1961-1962 for yhe spear parts to keep the engines alive ... Hanomag said the NO LONGER had any spear parts for Hanomag. Even the Japanese loco producers said they NO LONGER have any spear parts fro steam locos ....
A few Hanomag that survived the braker's torch have become a Monument such as the one at Nakhon Ratchasima railway station and Thung Song Junction. I think there is anotehr Hanomag at Makkasan though ....

Hello,
As I plan to travel to Thailand for "railfanning" in January, I have a few questions:
1.) On this very interesting site there is a picture with the displayed SLM-Shunter #21:
http://www.thaimtb.com/cgi-bin/viewkatoo.pl?id=29683
Look pictures #187…189 (at the bottom). Can somebody tell me where this loco is located?
2.) Is the ex-Swiss steam-loco still on display at Chiang Mai? Is there any other SLM-Locomotive (steam or diesel) somewhere else in the country to visit?
3.) Is the last Henschel-DH # 3015 still in service at Shurat Thani? Is it used for shunting or for local trains?
I thank you very much in advance for any advice and any help!
Greetings from the cold and foggy Munich

1.) SLM-Shunter No. 21 is now displayed in front of SRT Headquarter opposite to Wat Debsirin.
2.) SLM Steam No. 340 is SHOWNED at Chiang Mai .. Sila At anfd Lampang Shedmay be the place you can locate that SLM Steam.
Too bad SLM Diesel Loco are used at mae Klong railway and now all of them are GONE for good ...
3.) Henschel-DH # 3015 is for eihter shunting or local train even thouhg it is likely to be shunting .... SRT has sold 15 of Henchel DH to ITD and then ITD has cannibalized 15 Henchel DH to form 3 servicable locos for the Construction of Suvannabhum Airport (No 3018, 3023 and 30xx).

Khun pat,
You better go to Phaholyothin Cargo depto to look aroudn and then you should go aroudn Lad Krabang or Klong Sip Kao Junction (a junction next to Chachongsao Junction) .... to catch Henschel .... I cnanot give you a schedule ... since the schedue is very irregular .... probably you should wait at Lad krabang Station instead ....

Hello!
At Lad Krabang, they told me that the gravel train should arrive by 0745am with locomotives "2192" and "2194", but I could nowhere find any information about this loco-numbers. As the only common language was (a bad) English, I could not find out, if the airport link isd already under construction and where the junction to SRT is.
At Paholyothin Cargo depot, I saw 3009 and one other unknown Henschel- loco under repair (but there was unfortunately not enough light for taking pictures..). There were also about six cannibalised locos.
Any news about the location and the duties from 3018, 3020, 30xx?

Hello,
so I'm back from Surat Thani and could make some nice pictures of the shunting Henschel. Amazingly, it was not 3015, but 3007. I have not been to Hat Yai.
Tomorrow, I will again have a brief look for an ITD-Loco at Lad Krabang and Klong Sip Kao Junction, and in the late evening I will fly home to the windy, wet and cold Europe:(
For any news about the duties of the ITD-Henschel I will still be interested, this was my first but NOT my last visit to Thailand:)
Greetings Patrick

This Henschel Diesle Hydrolic Locos have been commissioned by SRT since 1964 (No 3001 - 3027) ... after successful service of Diesel Hydrolic Loco of meklong (D1-D2) in 1957
Henschel (now a part of Bombadier) has supplied locos for Railway Dept
since very early days ...
Deisel Hydrolic Locos is generally lighter than Diesel Electric loco of the
same horsepowers ... and it can be used in the flood aea withotu problems
and it is cheaper for maintainance due to the BO-Bo wheele arrangement (until the producers has shut down the production line of this diesel hydrolic loco) ... However, Diesel Hydrolic is now good for Shunting ... not the mainline service though ....

Both Eastern and Northern SRT lines start from Hualampong Station and pass through Bangsue stations - both of which have Metro (subway) connections.
The Northern Line has no Skytrain connections and there is only one poor connection to the Eastern Line at Phayathai stop (Phayathai Skytrain).

Hi I am a UK based railway/aircraft enthusisast.I have a Thai partner and am hoping to settle in Thailand in the future. My interest in railways has recently revived with security issues at airports and open access in Europe. My railway experience in Thailand has been limited to a few plinthed locos around. So my request is about the Thai enthusiasts scene - are there societies ? is the concept of spotting known and covering track known ? is it possible to visit depots ? and are there restrictions on photography.I hope this not too basic.
http://www.rotfaithai.com/ Admittedly all in Thai, but with a veritable feast of interesting photos that are often linked from this site as well. I have no idea whether expats sometimes go on 'RotfaiThai' outings, but why not contact Khun Wisarut, the Moderator of this very subforumfor more info. Elsewise, hang around this forum and you'll undoubtedly be incontact with somelike-minded folk.

Well Mr.B, welcome to Thailand and prepare to explore on your own. A real society as known in the UK ore on the mainland of West-Europe, until now did not come alive although an enthusiasts scene among Thai is something that developed during the recent past years. www.rotfaithai.com is a good example of this. Unfortunately their website is most in Thai language, so for a stranger without any knowledge hardly to read. Twenty years ago when I first entered the Thai rail scene, I was complete on my own until a few ‘farang’ with the same interest found each other and started charring information and exploring together. Some were based permanently in Thailand others came just for holiday or be a part-time resident like myself. I always had in mind the day I become a full time resident to start a society in the way used in Europe; the Thai Rail Society. (TRS) It sounds sound but don’t stick me to this. The perception of living in Thailand is not the same as 10 to 15 years ago, at least in my opinion, but that goes beyond the scope of rail matters.
Spotting, a famous British occupation and less known and done in other parts of the world. I still have an old badge: ‘Ian Allen loco-spotters club’, although I have never spot in the way of writing down the passing numbers. In Thailand nobody will hinder you, maybe a secret silent thought here and there, that crazy farang, you’ll never understand. The outer end of Hua Lamphong’s platforms is a spot to do. Meanwhile to form you an idea of what’s going on, plough yourself through the forum especially the rail fan part and feel free to ask. L’histoire se repète but that doesn’t matter, you have to begin somewhere.
Hi
I am new to this forum and maybe my questions have already been dicussed here (sorry, if that´s the case).
I am a railway fan from Germany and I am building a website about danish railways (www.sebtus.de). I learned that the danish manufacturers Frichs and Scandia delivered rolling stock to Thailand in the 1930ies and some of them have been preserved. Could anybody tell me:
- when was the danish material phased out?
- which locos, railcars and coaches are preserved?
- where are they located and what is their state?
- where can I find pictures of those?
- could anybody provide some pictures of this material that I may show on my webpage?
Thank you very much in advance!

Khun Sebastian,
It seems to me that my private message has NOT reached your mailbox at all so I need to elaborate here:
1) Frich MX131 (No. 551-556) decomissioned in October 24, 1962
Frich MX132 (No. 601) decomissioned in 1964
Frich Railcar (No.11,12,13,14,16) decomissioned in 1952 while Frich Railcar
No. 15 was decomissioned in 1965
2) Frich No. 556 Preserved at Wah Koh Science museum, Prachuab Khirikhan
with the new paint - NOT the original color -> just paint like Alsthom with
yellow front abd orange-red body
Frich No.601 Preserved at bangsue Loco Shed at very sorry state of
preservation - rusted away
Frich No.15 was kept at Makkasan RailwayYard ... at very sorry state of
preservation - rusted away
3) For the case of Frich 556, Take at look here:

If you want a picture of the 601, I can send you without any SRT permission whatsoever.
It’s only an older one, long time ago since I went to the Bang Sue yard and looked for the scrap. If you read through the former threads there are still some hints about the Frichs locomotives and diesel railcars. In one of them I asked what number Frichs was on a lorry, my thoughts were this good be the 601 – the only one in his sort – and after all those years of rusting away at the Bang Sue diesel locomotive depot (outside) well deserved refurbished and plinthed. Unfortunate only dreams, the engine is rusty and remains rusty until someone with historic sense keep the appearance alive for future rail fans and other people or even in a run able constitution.

07-06-05, 08:10 PM
Khun Wisarut,
Four (4) pictures I have. The first one of the 601 I took in 1986, the last in the early nineties. By that time rusty already as far as I remember. All slides. In short I shall make a few scans and make a link as I did in the thread ‘preserved steam engines’ with the Kanchanaburi (fake) 175. (Still no real answer on that, but no problem end of October I’ll be there and do some survey myself)
And for the rest, well what shall I say. Twenty years by now I come to Thailand and took pictures with a system.
Since I am not the kind of photographer who just wants to have much as much possible and shoot at random, my Thai collection on the moment counts a bit more than 1000 slides. Enough to give a rough impression. Beside Thailand I do have pictures of Malaysia, Vietnam,
Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, North Borneo and my special: the former C.I.Y between Haiphong (harbour Southeast from Hanoi) and Kunming (the capital of the Chinese province Yunnan).
Next week I have plenty time to visit and read the Forum, so by then you can look forward to the 601 pictures.
Wisarut

That's Okay ...
Wait until the president of rotfaithai.com (Dr. Rakpong) - the native of Kanchanaburi -> coming up with the deep post-motem autopsy on that
fake 175 at the bridge across Kwae Yai. :D :)
Initially, I thought that it is C-52 No. 756 ... until I saw the list
that it was plinted at Ratchaburi.
Well, just list the best ones and that would be fine ....
suhc as that Frich 601, Steam & Locomotives and Railcars at
Ban Laem [bigger version than the one I have seen in 2bangkok.com],
or some RARE photo of Thai locos & Thai Railway and that would be
fine .... so I could ask Khun Bomb (webmaster of Rotfaithai.com) to
keep them as very rare photo of Thai railways.
Hope that Army Engineer could recover that C 56 Loco sunk into
Mae Klong at Ratchaburi very soon.
von Hirschhorn
08-06-05, 07:03 PM
Very nice ...
Hopefully Dr. Rakphongse will be so kind to give his impressions and solutions about the 175 on this website instead of his own unless in English. I can understand and speak some Thai but not sufficient enough for detailed matters. Order a ‘kao phat’ OK, but technical locomotive details …?
Are you referring to the pictures on the site: 'Fate of the ex-Maeklong Railroad stock.' (there are others from Ban Laem)
I can send but not after making a new scan, these are not successful.
I only posses a simple (sheep) scanner and what seems to be a brilliant slide comes out as a secondhand reproduction. However, by trying and experiment a more or less show able result seems to be possible.
Last question: where (address) you like to receive the pictures and how big they have to be or the same procedure as in the thread 'List of preserved steam engines' under number 45.
Wisarut
08-06-05, 08:41 PM
Well, I'll translate the results after the authopsy by Dr Rakphongse :D

The Ruston & Hornby locomotive (Britsh by the way) I never saw since but maybe you have to visit the system monthly instead yearly.
At least you did, keep me informed about the next steps taken about the closure of the Maeklong station at Samut Songkram. Another loss on a favorite line.
Sunday October 30th the Dutch Railway Society, with a group on tour, will be in Bangkok. I like to guide them for a day on the Maeklong line, include the ride along the market. I sincerely hope you have some influence in this tricky rail matter and can persuade the municipal workers to postpone the scheme till after I have lead the fans over vegetables and along hasty lowered sunscreens.
Although it’s a loss for a colorful railway, in fact there is a truth; the situation is quite out dated. On the other hand is there any one who brings in the idea to remove the market but without the fuss we have heard about near and around the old Thonburi station.
In the years 50 and 60 and even beyond it was common that rail infrastructure had to make way for others. These days a new thinking arises and things seem to be reversed. Let them think twice before make a drastic decision. Nobody likes to walk 2 Km to reach the former destination!
Let alone a preserved old station. Merchants nor clients will have an eye for that.

Khun von Hirschhorn, I have received both number 13 and 14 ...
However, Iwould like to see if the Railway Workers are goign up AGAINST that Maeklong Municiple ....

It seems to me that those Top brass within SRT are wiing to SCRAP the vintage loco and pockter from the sellout rather than preserving the locoaccordign to the late SRT General Manager (Col. Saeng Chulajarit) hasinitiated :(
I afraid that we need ROYAL intervention to prevent the loss of our heritage
by those THUGS within SRT Board.

Has Thailand ever had a company that manufactured rolling stock? Or at least a company that invested in a factory or something that makes these kinds of thing?

Hi everyone,
I would be very grateful for any information about Sulzer diesels used on Thai railways.
What is this little loco ?

What happened to those mentioned here ?

As I said, any information on any Sulzer would be welcome.

That little Sulzer No.21 plinted at the SRT HQ is for Shunting and for commuter trains after the unsuccessful Steam Railcar from Baldwin in 1928. It is not until Frich Railcar No. 11-16 that come to superceded Sulzer No.21-22 for BKk Commuter train.
So far, most of Sulzer Lochve been scrapped after the last retirement on maeklong Railway ... probably aroudn 1989 or so. :(

There is a picture of the 651 (Bo-Bo) on March 26th 1986 from the Mae Klong line at the yard of Mahachai station (Samut Sakhon).
Probably you explore this website already and saw it, otherwise it's here:
http://www.2bangkok.com/2bangkok/srt/maeklongmore.shtml
While I am not behind my own computer I cannot give you the details of the 2 Sulzer engines (A1A-A1A) worked (1 plinthed and maybe 1 still in working order) for the Jalan Prathan Cement Company. Both ex SRT engines.
Tomorrow I'll give you the dates and last sighting. (personal)

Thanks a lot for your replies,
Could the A1A A1A diesels be nos. 501 and 504 (from 1931) that are recorded in the 'Derby Sulzers' website ?

Two Sulzer engines were in the nineties in use? (ownership) by the Jalan Prathan Cement Company at their Ban Sa plant near Ban Cha-am - Km 203 - on the Southern line. A branch line connects this station with the plant. 504 (21828 – 1931) and 505 (21829 – 1931)
504 stood in a shed but looked run able, 505 plinthed near the office. I have not been there (again) recently so I have no information about their today’s situation and above all state of being.

I would be very interested to know if anybody has any information, especially photos - both recent and historical - , concerning the ex Swiss SLM-built 2-8-0 tender locos from the Rhatische Bahn network which were sold to Thailand in the late 1920's. I have one picture of no.340 plinthed at Chiangmai, but I would be grateful if anyone has further photos or records of their service in Thailand, such as which routes they ran on, their World War 2 service during the Japanese occupation etc.

Those Swiss Consilidate Loco had been put into the service between Uttaradit - Chiang Mai ONLY due to the ability to climb steep track (26 mill) ... and run through the sharp curve without slipping.
Better look at the record from Railways of Thailand for the Brief data ...
Now, I'm DIGGING the data abotu locomotives of Thai railway form the Annual report of Royal Siamese Railways ... andf oudn that at one time there was a derail due to heavy rain at Denchai due to heavy rain that soak up the clay under the track, causing Swiss Consolidate to derail ... in 1927 .... This caused 6 dead and scores of injurred people ...and Military hospital at Denchai had to take care of those injurred ...

Not strictly relevant to this forum. The semi roudhouse at Nuremberg West was destroyed by fire on October 17.Some 25 items of the DB museum operating stock or store were damaged or destroyed.Including 2-10-2 45 010 last survivor of class and 2-6-2 23 105, the last stem loco built for German State railways.Very sad.

There were not only the two mentioned locos affected, the functioning replica of the first German locomotive "Adler" (built in 1935, originally from 1835) got severe damages as well.

Khun Wisarut,
hello together,
the winter is coming with big steps, so a trip to Thailand will start soon.
As I will pass most of the time with railfanning, I have again two questions...:
-Is there any known location to see a ITD-Henschel within the next two weeks?
-Is there still any big or small Davenport around? There are recent pictures of #530 at Nakhonlampang and #571 at Uttaradit, presumably both for shunting purposes. Are they still active, do others of those classes still exist?
Thanks in advance and greetings from Munich!

For Davenport 500 HP, they still shunting around the railyards at Thung song, Surat Thani, Sila At, Ubon, and Nakhon Ratchasima .... for the case fo 1000 HP, ONLY 1 survived ... whcih is No. 571.
For ITD Henschel, you can see the cannibalized one at Phaholyothin Rialway Yard while you have to be patient to spot them at lad Krabang, Kaengkhoi, Chachongsao or Nakhon Ratchasima sicne they was used for the construction of Suvannabhum Airport .... ;)
a few years back hualampong station had a few commerative coffee mugs for sale featuring different thai stations.
i bought the one for hua hin but in my moves since then i've mislaid it.
are these still available anywjere???

i'll give it a go...thx
the only time I can remember when they sold commemorative things was when the SRT had their 100-year jubilee, forgot now how long ago that was.
Above seems to be the ebst idea, or in HuaHin itself, the older parts of the market....

Dear friends i nned help urgently . All i need to know is the location of NAWAMIN school in NAKHONSAWANplease do guide me map would help me more hank you
I guess you mean in the city itself, rather than the whole province. I don't know the city. Just been there a couple of times. But I do have a small city map showing Thanon Nawamin (Nawamin Road):-
http://i1.tinypic.com/n3rbqo.jpg
Unfortunately, I can't see any obvious signs of a school on this map or some others. But that may be no big surprise on a Thai map. They don't claim to be comprehensive. North is up and a Kilometer is about 2 cms. The map shows the centre of the city and Route 117 is a fairly important looking North-South route out of the downtown. I've highlighted the road with a smudgy purple arrow. I recommend you get roughly to the area and ask for 'Rong Ree-un Nawamin'. Hope you can figure it out.

Somewhere else someone asked for Railway Mugs once edited (probably limited)
The SRT made several souvenir things in the course of time, one of those are series of Postcards. I only have one set and desperately looking for others but in vain, nothing to find. If anyone has a few doubles or want to get rid of them well lets negotiate.

Khun Wisarut, Stevie was primarily asking about steam trips. In December there should be steam trains to Ayutthaya and Kanchanaburi, right? I am sure you can provide a schedule?

In such as case, you should go to Kanchanburi between Novermber 28 - Decemebr 5, 2006 :) :p

Come one guys don’t let l’histoire se répéte again and again. If every newcomer give themselves a bit effort and browse on this side, he or she will find a lot of information, especially in regard of steam. The list is complete and as long as there will be no new facts coming to daylight, it stays that way. :D

so if I go to Ayutthaya end of November they are some Steam Locomotive activities?
Thank you!
Kind regards

Well for the Steam train to Ayutthaya, it will be HELD on December 5, 2006 ... However, you will be able to buy the ticket for the steam trip on Dec 5 ONLY after Nov 5 .... and the Ticket is running out so fast ... so you better hurry up ...
It would be nice to think that with the possible establishment of a regional railway museum in Hat-Yai they might bring a working loco down south and provide something for Malay and Singaporean tourists other than the standard worn-out dubious charms of the Pink Lady. That would also be another way of disarming the kneejerk reaction of sanctimonious Malaysian politicians like Mohatir against the city. And Hat-Yai to Songkhla would make a splendid route to run it on. Not too far.
Some hope! Nothing ventured, nothing gained!

Khun GWR,
We already have the unofficial reginal railway museum in Kanchanaburi
The next one would be at either Thung Song or Hat yai ... Thung Song has MORE space than Hat Yai for this matter though ....
Well, ther are ONLY 5 workable steam loco left .. at at Thonburi ...

A heap of painted rust on a plinth in the open air is by all means not a museum in the real sense. A museum is foremost a protected area with al lot of explanation around. Chatuchak deserve the name although it’s visible that the venture leans on a single shoulder.
For the rest – in respect of rail or public transportation only – Thailand has none other like the ones as described before. Or if you want to look at it from a positive side; Thailand it self as a big museum because all the preserved loco’s are scattered around and put in front of several station or elsewhere throughout the nation. Take a trip and count the artefacts.
Let’s declare – and enlarge - Bangkok’s Thonburi shed as a living monument of the past. However, without a lot of explanation but enough to see and touch or even smell. A place where the sphere lingers on and not be frozen on a fruitless plinth.
And a museum is not only the matter of preserve/protect, but there is also an aspect of education. I think that a section of the Thonburi yard will be not a bad place for a museum, along a railroad. So it is in other countries too, like the Railway Musuem near Lancaster (PA) in the USA, or even in the Netherlands in Utrecht in the former Maliebaan station.;)

We'd be very interested in some sort of collaboration with members here. We're just in the pre-launch phase of Train Spotting World (http://train.spottingworld.com), and it seems to us that there is huge synergy with your forum here.
Now we "look" like wikipedia, but there the similarity ends. We're free and easy and light and fun, or will be when you guys get started. At present we've populated the site with about 2,600 pages on rail just to give a place to start.
The thing that's missing is your part of the world. And you guys are well positioned to rectify that, so please come and join us.
I'm grateful to the moderator for approving my membership. I asked about this post's suitability when I applied to join.

I understand that the C58 locomotives brought to Thailand were unpopular and soon disposed of. Has anyone ever seen a picture of one in service in Thailand? Were they ever painted in green and black? I have got a good set of drawings for one and intend to build a model of one once I have finished my C56
A reader asks:
As an Asian business student I am writing my final paper about the Thai transport industry. Currently I am writing about the train and metro. Can you tell me how many locomotives, passenger coaches and freight cars Thailand has now and estimated growth unitill 2010? I also would like to know the same about the metro and light rail.
Can you help me in this matter?
If anyone knows, please reply to this thread.

Hello,
next trip to Thailand is being planned, and my aim is to "find" the two Sulzer-locos 504 and 505.
There is a report with an quite recent picture of #504 on
rotfaithai.com:
http://portal.rotfaithai.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=1475
Unfortunately I don't understand Thai...
The other loco, #505 was reported "plinthed near the office" at "Jalan Prathan Cement Company" at Ban Sa near Ban Cha-am (a few kilometers north of Hua Hin) here in this board, while #504 was reported "stored". So I guess that the pictures of the report were taken at that location.
Does somebody know if #505 still exists, and how it's possible to
find it? Are there some other preserved Sulzer- or Frichs-locos in
Thailand? (Are there recent reports about the big double-loco #601?)
Actually, I have visited following two locomotives:
SLM/Sulzer #21, plinthed at the SRT-headquarter, near Hualampong-
station, Bangkok
Frichs/Oerlikon #556, plinthed at Memorial Park of Science at Waghor,
south of Prachuap Kiri Khan.
Both are in a well maintained shape.
Any further help is highly appreciated!
BTW: I could find out more about the ITD-Henschels (and see them): They are based at Sri Racha Junction, Chonburi province. Upon my visit, three Henschels were there.

Hello Patrick, welcome to the land of locomotive smiles
Unfortunate my only and last visit to The Jalan Phratan Cement Company plant near Cha Am dated from 1990, and by that time 504 and 505 where still there, 1 stalled and 1 on plinth. I even do not know if they still have any rail transportation.
If you look at my latest story in the series Northern Miscellaneous, you see that their plant at Phon Thong abandond the rail transportation.
However, for you a chance to find out, after all you have to take a holiday on the best thinkable manner.
And please let us know. Hereby a (nice ?) old picture of the 601 in 1986 and three years later.

When the class 17 diesel shunters were withdrawn by KTMB 2 or 3 were sold for use in Thailand. Recently one of these has returned but is not currently identifiable. It is parked in a secure compound adjacent to Klang station. Does anyone have any further information on these 2/3 locos, such as original numbers, current status, etc.
Going back a lot further, in 1924 a class A 4-4-0T was sold to "a coal mine in Siam", it was Hunslet 851 of 6/1904, Malacca Railway 2, became FMSR 71 in 1905. Does anyone have any further info on this loco, such as where exactly it went and its subsequent fate.

Let me guess, those class A 4-4-0T may ended up at Lignite Mine in Mae Mo, krabi or Kian Sa ..

Hello,
been there today.
505 exists, it is plinthed in front of the sales office of that cement work. The locomotive itself is in a good shape, but the body is completely emptied and the engine was removed. Obviously they used this locomotive as a conference room.
The railway link still exists and they use a new shunting locomotive.
They told me as well that they do not own 504 anymore, and according to the link below, it was (still is?) located somewhere in a scrapyard.
As railfans are pretty unknown here at Cha'am, and I can't read Thai, I kindly ask here: Is there an exact location of the loco 504 mentioned in the text of the link in my last post (from the rotfaithai-forum)? Can somebody translate?
I will of course provide further news as soon as I have, but actually I need little help for further "investigations";)
Thank you very much in advance and greetings from Cha'am

Pat,
In such a case, you better go to a junk dealer at Pak Tho District of Rajburi ...
Here's a thread that has some mention of shunters at Mae Mo Lignite mine in Lampang Province, Northern Thailand. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to mention the shunters in question, and its sole RotFaiThai photographic link has lapsed:

So fart, No. 666 is in Thung Song Yard while No. 669 is plinted at SRT Engineering School in Chatuchak .... Other than that, I have no clue ....
BTW, Many SRT men considered Hitachi Loco (HI) as "a teacher" to teach them how to handle Diesel Electric locos ... Davenport 21000 HP was too few (15 sdets) ... comparing with HI which there are 30 :D
AHK (Class 4200) have come to take over t he duty of Hitachi Loco since 1980.

Further to this question I asked earlier, I have now examined my photos of the class 17 at Klang and it is identified on the cabside as "SMH07" while the plate on the front says "SMHrail". Does this help in identification?

This doesn't really answer your question at all, but it does suggest the loco in question has been in the hands of a locally-based rail engineering company for the last few years. Difficult to say, though, whether SMH Rail bought the loco from Thailand. Or if they borrowed/bought/loaned it from KTM and then returned it when it was no longer useful.
SMH Rail Sdn Bhd
SMH Rail SDN. BHD. was established in 2000 with the main objective to provide comprehensive array of services mainly to Railway Industry. The company is fully equipped with all necessary infrastructure in terms of machinery, equipment, technology, technical manpower and Joint Venture Partners in overseas to cater the need of Country's Rail Development Projects

The above link shows that SMH has a 'Wheel Shop' at Klang Station, so it was probably used for moving stuff around the workshop's sidings. Maybe you should contact the company and ask them. Unfortunately the site looks a bit short on email addresses and phone numbers.

Looking forward to see that and greeting from Munich:
