3,000 Make Use Of Langkawi-Lipe-Trang Passenger Ferry Service

LANGKAWI, Jan 2 (Bernama) -- About 3,000 local and foreign tourists have made use of the passenger ferry service between Langkawi and Koh Lipe and Trang province in southern Thailand since it was launched last November.

The ferry service is a collaborative effort between Langkawi-based Mahsuri Travel and Tours Sdn Bhd and Tigerline Travel of Trang.

Mahsuri Travel and Tours managing director Che Isa Aji said the ferry service would be increasingly popular as many Thais and foreign tourists holidaying in Phuket island were using it to visit Langkawi.

He said the company provided two ferries for the service, each able to carry 131 passengers. A one-way trip which takes 45 minutes, costs RM95 per passenger.

The first ferry leaves Kuah for Trang at 9am and vice versa at 4pm.

Che Isa said currently about 95 per cent of the ferry passengers were foreign tourists and Thai nationals.

He said the ferry service would give a boost to the Visit Kedah Year 2008 programme.

Mahsuri Travel and Tours, which is a Bumiputera wholly-owned company, also has 20 tour buses and a chain of holiday accommodation and seafood restaurants.
