This has been making waves in the US press, but I haven't seen it much in the local media? A summary with some juicy quotes (http://www.northcountrygazette.org/news/2007/12/20/slavery_wife_jailed/):
LONG ISLAND—A millionaire couple, convicted after a nine-week trial in a modern-day slavery case involving two Indonesian women they had hired as housekeepers, must forfeit their 5,898 square foot home to the federal government. ...
As punishment for alleged misdeeds that included sleeping late and stealing food from trash bins because they weren’t fed properly, the women were subjected to beatings with brooms and umbrellas, had scalding water thrown on them, were forced to repeatedly climb stairs and take as many as 30 freezing showers in three hours. ...
Defense attorneys had argued that the women had abused themselves as part of an Indonesian self-mutilation ritual and that they had been free to leave at anytime, especially when the Sabhananis went on vacation or business trips.

And a few more detailed reports:

According to the NY Post article, the woman accused of all of this is Indonesian herself.
