View Full Version : SRT Timetables-E&O Nongkhai
not in the printed timetable and only announced on posters in stations: 1. a new 4/times daily AC-SPRINTER fast service is run between BANG SUE and Ayuttaya, fare is 45 bt/single.
the very first train lvs from HLPong at 5.00!-5.15 Bang Sue.
also on the EASTERN line since many years a drastic change has been announced: this probably means the works for double tracking are now coming to end and allow for better service. trains to ChaChoengSao up to 25 mins faster as hitherto!

How often does SRT update its timetables and/or websites?
The Enforcer!
the actual timetables when they seem fit to do so.
the printed ones usually follow up whithin a few weeks (they loose the money, so I just guess Thai style the old ones are given out till exhausted!)
the website is updated maybe 2 times/year (the BMTA is even worse at that), and as i said, does not show the local trains. it now only has a PDF format of the leaflet you can get at the station.

Volker,
Why don't you put the arrival/departure information in a spread sheet and put it into a file where we can copy same.
When I was living in BK I made out my own arrival and departure sheets along with track numbers and updated them whenever a new TT came out. They were very helpful and I was able to show how some of the equipment was utilized.
Do you have the information on the equipment trains that operate between Hua Lamphong and Bang Sue Junction? It seemed to me at the time that there was a schedule of sorts but I never attempted to sort it out.
Does anyone have a typical schedule for the runs a driver or conductor makes during the month. Long haul trains vs. local trains and so forth.
Does anyone know the storage track capacity of Hua Lamphong yard. Also, what is the latest daily operation on using the equipment washing facilities? Did they ever get it working properly and if so how many cars are washed each 24 hours.

Hello Tower 43,
I've just seen your message on the board after completing my information on the new timetable of the SRT.The file I've got on the new timetable is in Thai only, but nevertheless I'm able to send you this as a seperate Excel file if you write to my E-Mail address which is:dr.wangemann@t-online.de.I'm glad if I can provide you with the necessary information.
I haven't got the duties for train operators or conductors but what I've got is the locomotive running schedule and also the train formation plan for most of the trains.Just send me a message and we'll see how it works.

Hello dear friends at the forum,
I've to correct a few things on the given new timetables.EXP DRC 356 is running to Bangkok, but curiously this is shown only in the Commuter line timetable and not in Southern line timetable where it terminates at Bang Sue Junction. So it arrives at 07:43 at Bang Sue Junction from Suphan Buri via Malai Maen, then it stands there until 09:05 to run to Hualampong,to arrive there at 09:30 with an intermediate stop at Sam Sen at 09:13.
SPEC 913 and 914 are running to and from Suphan Buri on SATURDAYS,not on Sundays,as mentioned before! For the railway fans that is the only chance to see the Nong Pla Duk Junction-Suphan Buri section during daytime,as both regular trains EXP DRC 355 and EXP DRC 356 cover this section in the dark!
I'm still looking for the complete timetable of the two SPEC,so please can anyone help me?
For anyone who's interested in I've compiled the complete station list with included unused stations and tunnels as EXCEL file, also the departure list from all Greater Bangkok stations is available as an EXCEL file and a list of all trains(passenger and goods)as WORD file.So anyone who's interested to receive this lists should just send me an E-Mail to the known address and I will forward those lists as attachments to him/her.
In the moment I'm sitting to prepare another EXCEL file which will then include the complete timetable details of every train departing from Greater Bangkok stations,so look for it.
From cool Berlin all best wishes to everyone from
Volker
and the changes go on>>>>>>
from 12/12 the 3-- series 4/day AYUT sprinter shuttles WITHDRAWN again!
yes, if you only tell about them in Thai to people who are on the platform anbd thus have a ticket already for another train.............
Ive crossed out and changed times on my leaflet for local trains airport-HLPong: it now means that ONLY ord. trains run into town in the morning, arr HLP from 6.00-11.30 then ONLY more expens. RAPIDS and others.
FROM HLPong ONLY between 14.00-18.10 ord trains, other trains just a few rapoids, and the other much more expens. long-dist expresses etc. otherwise: go to BangSue or Mochit=Phahonyotin, and plan accrodingly!
We should use this forum to give a more permanent link to the English timetable (http://www.2bangkok.com/06/DEPARTURES%20BANGKOK%202006.xls) created by Volker Wangemann. That file must have taken quite some time to compile, I'd guess.....
Tip: Particularly useful for those rail lovers (I know there are many of you around here) planning a trip on the Maeklong Line, as it highlights the trans-river connections (4 per day and direction) between Mahachai and Ban Laem/Maeklong. See lines 2313 to 2538 of the table.
Gute Arbeit, Herr Doktor!
New SRT timetable in English - August 26, 2006
Dr. Volker Wangemann writes: As a regular user of your 2bangkok.com page I've also written sometimes in your forum. Now I've compiled the newest SRT-timetable for the Greater Bangkok Area (198kb) in English. Maybe some of your regular users are interested to download the timetable as most of the users are not able to read the original Thai version.
And more trains!
The update has been linked under the old address (here (http://www.2bangkok.com/06/DEPARTURES%20BANGKOK%202006.xls)).
The "rural trains" file is here (http://www.2bangkok.com/06/RURAL%20TRAINS%20IN%20THAILAND.xls).
Updated SRT timetables in English - September 8, 2006
Dr. Volker Wangemann writes: The file DEPARTURES BANGKOK 2006 is an updated version of the previous file, as the SRT has forgotten to mention the two trains in their old timetable and also one train train was extended from Sikhoraphum to Samrong Thap in the newer version of the SRT-timetable, not shown in the old timetable. If it would be possible it would be good to show the updated version now and replace the older version.
Regarding RURAL TRAINS IN THAILAND that's a total new EXCEL-file with all trains which do not serve Bangkok. It's planned as the first part out of a series of three of which I'm compiling the second part now.
If later then all three parts might be published at last everyone will get a complete(!) passenger timetable of all trains in Thailand showing every respective station or stop of the trains and their timings, a thing that has never done before and I'm quite sure that no one has got a timetable like this of the SRT before!

What?! Why are they doing this, as I would have though the MRT would have increased the popularity of Bang Sue? All other trains still stop there, right?

Khun jpatokal,
Those in suburbs and riural area Prefer to see theri trrains starts and terminate at BKK Station, NOT to Bangsue Junction ... Clear and SImple. They don't want to pay extra 33 Baht for riding form Bangsue to Hua Maphong though ... Extra 2-20 Baht for the section between BKK and Basngsue is enough for these passengers ...
Worse still, MRTA failed to negotate with SRT to have the gates ERECTED inside Bangsue Junction .... either due to space coinstrains insider the station or the lack of negotiation skills ....

At least some sense is returning to the SRT headquarters. The station next to the bus terminal, who really want to descend there and wondering where he is landed. Commuters like to commute on the most quick and cheap way possible. Anyone ever visit Phahon Yothin station would find himself lost in what seems to be an outskirt of the city jungle. The much dammed automobile lobby forced the train to retreat from Hua Lamphong in the first place while the many crossings in the inner city were to long closed for them. Even worse, some crossings sometimes cannot be closed while the traffic is locked. Here we seen the opposite: a train have to wait until the crossing is cleared. Traffic politics, a shift of interest, but no one who’s daring to take drastic measures. Let’s wait for the day the track between Bang Sue and H.L. is one big gridlock, car and train alike. :D

So, here they go, the last two remain day trains between 'Mai' and 'Kok'.
What's still there is the diesel Expresses, terrible cold. I really can't understand why people - especially the Thai - are addicted to 'air' or I am a acception?
Goodby open window, mellow winds and swinging of the landscape while passing by. You must admit, from behind the glass is half the fun.

A couple of months back unsure of excate date but it was the last time that an excel file with the entire SRT passenger time was posted on www.2bangkok.com
I have noticed a number of trains come at time much later eg Rapid 136 to bangkok arrives alot later that in the excel file. There appears to have been a major timetable change on May 15th 2007 as i noticed a few other trains such a express 52 and a few more that have quite different times
If so what changes did occur on may 15th 2007?
Where did the timetable data for the excel file come from orginally. is it from a working timetable or elsewhere?
Please let me know as soon as possiable
thanking you for your help.

No one on this site seems to know anything about this. as i posted this about 5 days ago and not one reply. so ill ask a different question.
Does anyone know if its possiable to get a copy or at least have a look at a current working timetable for SRT? so i can check changes myself.
Some of the posters who may be able to answer this do not visit this site every day. It's also a holiday weekend, which has definitely meant less traffic from the regulars. This might help in the meantime. I notice that the following .pdf timetable is dated May 15, 2007. Like most English language timetables from SRT it does not contain every train movement. For example, it doesn't have the Ordinary trains from Surat Thani to Khiri Rat Nikom & back. It probably contains many of the train movements into Bangkok, however:
http://www.railway.co.th/English/Time_PDF.asp
I also went looking for the Thai language versions of these .pdfs. to be honest, I usually look at Thai language timetables because they are fairly easy to read and usually give the details of every train running on a regular basis - even those that only run on workdays. I note that the following alternative SRT website has now lapsed:
http://www.thailandrailway.com/
OK! This Thai language timetable (also dated May 15, 07) looks more detailed, but a few trains are probably still missing:

Dear Khun Gwmss 15 and Khun GWR,
yes it's absolutely true that a lot of train timetables have changed and not only the ones you mentioned. On nearly every line a lot of trains have either completely changed their timetables on most part of their journeys or at least on some sections of their journeys. In the moment I'm updating the latest available EXCEL-file which was published here several weeks ago and as soon as the new timetables are complete I shall send them to Ron for publishing! Please wait for the new edition,it will be worth to wait,I'm trying to solve these timetable problems as fast as I can!
With best wishes from Berlin from

Hi All,
I am a very new Thai rail enthusiast having been to Thailand for the first time earlier this year. Big difference to the almost non existant long distance services out of Sydney where I live.
Great work GWR on the spreadsheet in the previous post. Certainly a lot more information available than the published English timetable.
I've got a couple of questions: Was the spreadsheet sourced from timetables readily available in Thailand?
The second one is what is the 'E AND O SP THU ONLY' service between Bangkok and Chiang Mai?
Thanks again for a great forum.
Regards,
Charles.

The Eastern & Oriental Express is a very luxury train running between Singapore and Bangkok on certain days and a few times a year to Chiang Mai as well plus a short side trip to the River Kwae bridge along the Meklong River at Kanchanaburi. They have a website where you can find all the details and schedules as well.
The most particular thing on this train is the car at the rear, a so called 'parlor car' with an open platform.
For the purpose only this car will have a nice merry go around on the turntable of Chiang Mai.
Great work GWR on the spreadsheet in the previous post. Certainly a lot more information available than the published English timetable.
Dr Wangemann did ALL the hard work! I just saw it featured Frontpage and decided to put it in here for posterity. He deserves a lot of credit for these spreadsheets!!!

Thanks for the replies. Much appreciated.
I'll give the E & O a miss for now. I'll spend my time mixing with the locals.
Do you get much of a chance to see the train when it is in Bangkok?
Thanks,
Charles.

Back in Bangkok again and anxious to get an update of the current SRT timetable on a spreadsheet. Particularly interested in departures/arrivals Hua Lumphong and Bang Sue. Is there anything available later than 2006?

The big board above the platform entrance will certainly do. In the right corner there's an information booth, normally they do have leaflets of all lines. Ask for the Thai ones, they do have all the trains listed. The English versions only those the railway thinks is suitable for tourists.

It appears that E & O do intend to run this route occasionally. There's another trip on this route coming up in February according to this link:
http://www.luxury-trains.co.uk/eastern-oriental-express/bangkok-vientiane-2007.htm
3 days / 2 nights
Join the Eastern and Oriental Express for a thrilling journey through north east Thailand to the ravishing Angkor-style temple of Phimai - and on across the Mekong to the fascinating capital of Laos, Vietiane.
Tuesday : Bangkok
Leave Bangkok early afternoon and settle into your compartment. Relax while tea is served as you travel into north east Thailand. After a sumptuous dinner and a relaxing drink in the Bar Car, retire to your compartment which has been transformed into a cosy bedroom by your steward.
Wednesday : Hin Dat / Khao Yai
After breakfast in your compartment, the train arrives at Hin Dat. Disembark for a tour to the impressive Phimai Historical Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most important Khmer monuments in Thailand. Return to the E&O for lunch as you continue your journey on to Khao Yai. Here you visit local vineyards and have the opportunity to taste wines that are being called “New Latitude Wines”. Reboard the E&O in the early evening in time to prepare for dinner. Overnight on board.
Thursday : Vientiane
The E&O arrives in Nong Khai after breakfast. A coach transfers you to Vientiane across the Mekong via the Friendship Bridge. (Special arrangements have been made to clear Lao Immigration). Enjoy a full day’s tour of Vientiane including lunch at a local hotel. Capital of Laos, Vientiane is a city of contrasts where French colonial architecture sits alongside gilded Asian temples. Return to the train by coach and depart Nong Khai late afternoon. Exchange stories of the day’s discoveries with fellow guests over your final dinner, before relaxing with a night-cap in the Bar Car. Overnight on board.
Passengers leaving E&O in Vietiane should arrange for their local representative to meet them at Lao Immigration at the Friendship Bridge.
Friday : Bangkok
Breakfast is served in your compartment before the train arrives back into Bangkok in the morning.
