Good morning,

If one would like to scratchbuild models of contemporary locomotives and rolling stock of the SRT,where to obtain suitable dimensioned drawings?

I've seen those in R.Ramaer's book 'The Railways of Thailand',however they are not good enough for that purpose. Some years ago I sent a letter to the Chief engineer of SRT about drawings...I should have known better...no reply at all :)

Regards

Max

There are a few good quality drawings around .
The MaCarthur 2-8-2 was in continental modeller magazine in September/October 1986.
The C56 2-6-0 and the obscure C58 2-6-2 were in a book called Steam locomotive in Japan. The locos are shown in Japanese form so you have to lose the smoke deflectors etc
Continental modeller in May 1998 had the RHB G4/5 2-8-0 drawing, you'll need to add the coal rails to the tender
and 'Janes World railways' 1977 had the Alsthom Co-Co as a blueprint/cut away. The bogies, cab etc are o.k you'd have to work out where the grills go on the sides
I've got all these as scans if you can find a use for them
I am drawing up the C.G van and the S.W salt van from measurements and detail pictures I took at Khon Kaen this year.
What we could do with is getting hold of a SRT diagram book for a day and blitzing it through a photocopier or scanner. I can then use them to prepare fairly detailed drawing.
hope this helps

Hi Kevsmith(Kevin?)

Where does one find a SRT diagram book? By the way, I do have some drwgs of both Frichs diesels(Single and double loco),the Scandia teak sleeper and a railcar(also Frichs),however anything 'modern' has eluded me so far.

Best regards

Max

Hi All,

I'm very new here and am coming up to speed with the rail scene in Thailand.

I was wondering what the model railway interest is in Thailand? From what I have seen so far it is not too much from the locals. Perhaps expats bring their interests with them. I guess space is an issue but that hasn't stopped the Japanese which seem to have a huge supply of models available.

I visited Bangkok station on my first trip to Thailand earlier this year and it was fascinating. Quite a diverse range of carriages and railcars. Quite different to what you would find here in Sydney.

Thanks and regards,
Charles.

Hi Charles,

There is local model railway interest, however all is RTR from various Continental or US manufactorers. I also know of a few expats who are into railway modelling. Unfortunately nobody seems to model the SRT.Except for some second hand Japanese equipment the SRT purchased plus the UK Sprinters and some Japanese steam locos(which have to be modified),nothing else can be found as model.Scratch building would be necessary, however a lack of suitable drawings and dimensions of contemporary SRT equipment does keep potential builders away.

Just thought I would try and put some pictures on to show what I have been doing in terms of modelling Thai railwayshttp://i320.photobucket.com/albums/nn340/kevsmith/CGgauge1.jpg
This is one of the numerous C.G vans modelled in Plastic

This is my half finished C56 that has been on the shelf for a bit. The model is constructed from nickel silver and brass and is 1/32nd scale running on 0 gauge track (32mm gauge). I modifeid the drawings in 'Steam loco in japan' to reflect the changes made to the Thai ones. Hope to have it running around the garden one day!

I will post a picture of the C.F container wagon soon and pictures of the finshed models when they are painted

Right! seem to have got the hang of this image insertion bit so here is model of C.F container wagon. Very early stage of development but you can see the modified Kadee coupling and the resin cast axleboxes. I hope to build a few of these and some B.C.Fs. I am doing the pattern for the B.C.F bogie next so i can can cast them in resin as well.

The rolling stock is mainly made from polystyrene sheet but the roof of the C.G van was made from some thick perspex recycled from a store sign blown off in a storm. two pieces were bonded together and the sanded to the profile of the roof. That is why it is red!http://i320.photobucket.com/albums/nn340/kevsmith/213978_10A_026.jpg
