Does anyone have the story on the old river steamer tied up on Mae Nam Kong at Mukdahan? I have been told several things by locals such as: it has been used in movies; a famous murder occurred on board and hence no crew will serve on her now; she is being outfitted as a restaurant (although in several trips I've seen no activity on board). Thanks in advance

Mukdahan, Thailand - 1996. An old steamer moored along the banks of the Mekong River near Mukdahan.

Buy me & stop one:

I also found some other interesting photos when I found this one:

Yes, that's it. From this photo it appears that perhaps someone is living aboard. I wonder if her systems (engine, primarily) are still operable. Would love to know the story of the old boat. Thanks for finding and posting the photo. I have a few I've taken, but did not know how to post them in this forum. Thanks again.

Well, there's an an IMAGE icon in the REPLY TO THREAD textbox. If you click that a small text box will appear into which you can paste the online location of the photos so that they will appear in the thread.

A simpler alternative is just to paste in a link.

And here's just one example of a place where you can upload images free to show other people with the links described above:

If you only get as far as pasting in links, I may even come along later and reinsert them as actual images. If images look like they are going to wider than a normal computer screen, I usually prefer to use only a link, as wide images seem to load slowly for folks ( like me) who don't have 'true' broadband internet.

I didn't find any real info on the boat. Did you get a name of a picture of its Laos/Thai-script name?

Here is the best of the pics I've taken of the boat. Savannakhet is on opposite bank. Thanks for your help in posting this pic:

I've made some minor changes to the previous posting. It's best to copy the link from the text box under the picture that says: IMG Code for Forums & Message Boards; rather than copy the URL in the browser's navigation toolbar.

If you just paste the link in complete with its tags it will become a picture in the thread. If you remove the tags, it will materialize only as a hyperlink. A hyperlink is probably best in the case of this photo because it ends up bigger than normal computer screen width when you click on the 'thumbprint' image.

Okay, let me try this. I have adjusted the image somewhat to give a bit more detail. Now I can see what appear to be restaurant tables on the middle deck of the boat, a "Coca Cola" sign on the top, and a C-band satellite dish on the bow (such as used by restaurants / bars for their TV and radio channels.

I hope this will post properly. Thanks for your patient instructions.

I'm just wondering if this vessel is a rebuild of one of those old French river steamers with the steam equipment having been replaced by diesel. Any marine engineers out there?
