Interesting collection of United States Army Map Service topographic maps from the 1950s. I tried to find Khakaborazhi on these maps, but at the location mentioned, it wasn't really that clear whether I had found the mountain itself or just some very tall neighbors. And the closely adjoining sheet, where I suspect the real mountain lies, was not availble in either this collection or the Chinese collection: -

Here's an alternative interest from a map in the Pegu area: -

The Sittang Bridge. Blown up by the British Army as the Japanese advanced in WW2. And probably blown up again by the USAF at the end of the war. In the 1950s, some rather complex looking reconstruction work was going on. It is known that the Burmese railways were so heavily devastated by the war that reconstruction lasted for decades after: -

Far from satisfied I've positioned Mt Khakaborazi correctly.

Wikpedia gives coordinates as 28°19′59″N, 97°28′00″E which as mentioned in other thread puts the mountain in India according to Google Earth. Quite possibly GE country boundaries are not right.

Here's a screen shot http://www.members.optusnet.com.au/lanastar/GE2.jpg Using the Wikpedia coords it is in India [see placemark "Mt Khakaborazi 2"] So either the coords are wrong or the GE boundaries are wrong.

The other placemark is where I reckon it should be IF the coords are wrong AND the boundaries are correct.

As for the US Army Maps we need the western part of NH47-14, although the eastern part of NH47-13 here (http://www.members.optusnet.com.au/lanastar/NH47-13.jpg) does show a Mt Gamlang Razi 5836m. Coords are very close to those given in Wikpedia so I'm wondering if this is in fact Mt Khakaborazi 5881m with another name.

Confusing - yes, especially as I've posted this in a bit of a hurry.

Alan Rabinowitz in his book "Beyond the Last Village" [see other thread] includes a map of Mt Khakaborazi and surrounding area

The Map (http://www.members.optushome.com.au/lanastar/mm=%20Putao%20Hkakaborazi.jpg) may assist to locate Mt Khakaborazi

Gamlang Razi was my choice too. Unfortunately, they don't have the next map East.:)
