Children's Day with the military at Royal Plaza

I was a bit surprised at the sight of those spiffy new BMW police motorbikes (http://www.2bangkok.com/07/IMG_0085.jpg) - anyone ever saw these before? Maybe they are only used for motorcades and similar representative purposes?

Because usually one sees the cops riding what looks like 20-25 year old Japanese machines (not sure about the brand, Kawasaki I think?) --- and then, two of them often have to share one bike...! :cool:

The BMW bikes have been around for a good while. But I've only noticed them around Govt. House and in escorting the elite. Doubtless something slid under the table when the Govt. bought those dudes. They could have replaced much of the creaky Japanese bikes for what those Bimmers cost!
