Also set up with support from WCS is Khakaborazi [or Hkakaborazi] National Park.
"In the northernmost part of Myanmar at just under 20,000 feet, lies South East Asia’s highest mountain, snow capped Mt. Khakaborazi. First climbed in 1996 by Takeshi Ozaki of Japan and U Nama Johnson of Myanmar, it has never been climbed since. This area is now immortalised by Conservationist Alan Rabinowitz’s classic book “Beyond the Last Village” To this day, only a handful of outsiders have been privileged enough to follow in his footsteps."
I can recommend the book.
Google will produce heaps for "Khakaborazi" or Khakabo Razi". Wikpedia is the only reference (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hkakabo_Razi)I've come across that gives the coordinates. Note their spelling "Hkakabo Razi"
28°19′59″N, 97°28′00″E Probably wrong as the height shows only a bit over 16,000 feet.
Now if you enter these on Google Earth with International Boundaries ON, it places Khakaborazi clearly inside India:confused:
So here's my question. Are the coordinates wrong or are the 'overlays' in GE not accurate? I have noticed often that rail lines in GE are way off from where they should be and not too sure I have a lot of faith in GE layers.
Also an excellent article about Alan Rabinowitz in National Geographic here (http://www.nationalgeographic.com/adventure/0512/features/alan_rabinowitz.html) with details on both Hukawng Valley and Hkakabo Razi - note the spelling:)
