Apologises if this has been posted previously, but I don't recall it.

Almost all of Thailand is covered in 1:250,000 scale based on US Army Map Service 1950's

Main index is here (http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/ams/indochina_and_thailand/) which also includes Indochina.
If confused by the map Titles try the map illustration here (http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/ams/indochina_and_thailand/txu-oclc-6535632-index.jpg)

Similar maps for Burma here (http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/ams/burma/) andhere (http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/ams/burma/burma_key_map.jpg)

All are jpeg format although you may need to enlarge.

Although fairly old there's a wealth of information for studying. Of course these are long before most of the sealed highways and dams etc.

For example, The Thai-Burma Railway can be followed starting with map ND47-7 [Thai series] in the lower left corner.
Then map ND47-6 [Burma series] from towards lower right corner, and finally map ND47-2 [Burma series] from about midway on base then diagonally to top left. Even though part of the railway is marked "dismantled railroad" the maps still show the original route.

Sadly the very small part of Thailand not covered in this map series is the area relevant to the "Krochol" thread.

Can't find any maps in the same series for Malaya although there is a corresponding series of GSGS maps used by the British. See here (http://sunsite.berkeley.edu:8085/pdf/AMSindexes/ams150077burma.pdf)
Map NB-47R Betong would be helpful, but I haven't found any of these on the net.

Anyway, why not waste an evening or two and browse the lot:)

Another fine find. The internet situation between here and the USA is still not that good. I've only succeeded in downloading small map sections so far. But from the Chumpon map alone we can already establish that the main North-South highway in that province was still under construction in the 1950s.

Yes it's not exactly a 5 min job. I've downloaded all the maps for Thailand/Burma/Indochina and thats about 160 maps totalling almost 900MB

Just as well I treated myself to a new 'puter with a 250GB harddrive for Xmas.

I'm getting there! I've downloaded some that I thought would provide interesting evidence. I will shortly be posting some cropped scans in the SRT thread.

I believe this map was originally printed on the rear side of the Krungthep RD47-12 1:250,000 printed by the US Army Corp of Engineers in 1955. ('Verso' in the link suggests it was printed on the reverse, right?). Not a hugely detailed map, but it might contribute some minor info about the environment surrounding the Pak Nam Railway in the 1950s: -

Here's the map on the other side: -

Downloading 1:250.000 maps. But in my opinion all these maps shall be in the collections of the Topographic service(s). It seems to me that it would be easy to get some copies from these institutes. Besides a 4 maps I have thailand in my collection (for Malaya I will look for). Also the other parts of Indo China are in my collection (Burma not, lack of room!).
Is there a possibility to discover in which year wich sheets are done from the 1: 50.000 series? From Thailand and possible some bleading edge parts from the malayan sheets?
