Well, as it was asked on the main page, here an english version of the synopsis of that movie "Wenn du bei mir bist", basically a translation of the Wikipedia article (http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wenn_du_bei_mir_bist). That movie was one of a whole series of musical movies featuring the Schlager singer Roy Black of the late 1960s and early 1970s. At their time quite popular, this genre of German movies has disappeared since then...

So, the story of this movie is: A air crew with Roy Black as co-pilot is sent to Bangkok to pick up a plane repaired there. On the same flight to Thailand a Thai princess (starring Zienia Merton from Burma) is returning after her study in Germany to marry a prince whom she was promised as a child already. Roy Black falls in love with her and gives her a token with his initials. At the arrival in BKK he looses sight of her, and after some adventures in he city like being followed by a group of robbers, he finally finds the princess again and confesses his love to her. Two further couples find each other - a stewardess and a hotel owner, and the pilot (starring Lex Barker, more famous for the Karl May movies) with another stewardess, when Roy Black learns about the planned marriage of the princess. Unlike most of these movies there's no happy end, as the marriage goes as planned, only with him as an uninvited secret visitor. However when the princess sees him she shows she kept that token from him all the time, but could not answer his love.

Well, I doubt this movie would be any notable, only it being set in Thailand and showing the city 30 years ago give make it maybe little bit interesting - if you can stand to listen Schlager songs for one and a half hour

At their time quite popular, this genre of German movies has disappeared since then...Fortunately, one might add.....

Hard to believe, but I think I have actually seen this on TV some years ago (don't know if I managed to sit through the whole thing, as it's barely watchable; at least I turned off the volume and took a break whenever they started to sing!) As you can imagine, I was only interested because of the Thai theme and because they filmed in Bangkok and surroundings. I seem to remember the protagonists stayed in the Siam Interconti - so there is some historical footage involved.

Of course the flick is complete and utter nonsense.

That's one ridiculous plot for sure: Traveling to pick up a repaired aircraft, the heart-throb co-pilot meets a Thai princess en route to her pre-arranged wedding, who, despite this commitment, her royal status and supposedly conservative upbringing, doesn't shy away from flirting with him. The crew then end up staying in Bangkok for days (weeks?) because the plane is not ready or something, drive through the countryside in jeeps, foil the plot of some gem smugglers who then try to kidnap the princess... while no less than 3 love affairs are developing.

Combine all that with schmaltzy songs and the silly antics of actor/comedian Eddi Arent (as "Tobby, the clumsy chief steward"), and you get.... well, I am not sure what, but it is something rather undigestible.

Does anyone outside Germany know Roy Black (http://rateyourmusic.com/artist/roy_black)? (The singles from the movie are here (http://rateyourmusic.com/release/single/roy_black/wenn_du_bei_mir_bist___die_konigskinder/) and here (http://rateyourmusic.com/release/single/roy_black/ich_hab_getraumt__das_gluck_kam_heut_zu_mir___mein _schonster_traum/).) Do Americans know Lex Barker (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lex_Barker)??? Oh well, he played Tarzan, many decades ago....

I noticed we forgot to translate the title (if anyone's interested?): it means When you are with me.

So you can see that the emphasis is clearly on romance.

To answer the original question on the frontpage ("Anyone know what the story is with this German musical set in Thailand?") - well, basically they just used Thailand as an exotical backdrop to an otherwise entirely unremarkable kitsch-comedy musical for ageing housewives. :D

I doubt it'd be on any P2P - at first these kinds of movies aren't popular anymore, especially not for those who are active on P2P networks. Also, this movie hasn't been released on DVD, IMdB only links to a (no longer available) VHS version. Thus even more work to make a divx from that.

Thank's for looking.... I searched with "SHAREAZA" and fund around 18 sources, (Roy Black - Wenn du bei mir bist.mpg 870.95 MB) so it might take a few days to get the file via P2P. If completed, I will let every one know so we could share... :)
