A new province is planned to be created consisting of the Amphoe Cha-Am, Hua Hin, Pranburi and Sam Roi Yot of Petchaburi and Prachuap Khiri Khan province. As it is a "birthday gift" for the 80th birthday of the king, he is also the one to choose the name. According to Bangkok Post, the whole idea was from Thaksin himself.

Interestingly all the english news reports so far call Sam Roi Yod a sub-district (King Amphoe), although it was promoted to a full Amphoe earlier this year - at least according to the Thai wikipedia.

New province to celebrate HM the King's 80th birthday - The Nation, 29 August 2006

The government announced on Tuesday a plan to create a new province to celebrate His Majesty the King's 80th birthday next year. It would conduct a feasibility study into the proposal to merge districts of Phetchaburi and Prachuap Khiri Khan to form a new province.

The districts earmarked for inclusion were Cha-am in Phetchaburi and Hua Hin, Pran Buri and Sam Roi Yod sub district in Prachuap Khiri Khan. The Royal Klaikangwon Palace is in Hua Hin. Interior Minister Kongsak Wantana said the initiative had been studied for some time. The government believed the plan should be implemented next year to celebrate His Majesty's 80th birthday.

Meanwhile, Interior permanent secretary Sujarit Patchimnant explained the government would seek the opinions of residents. "The study and surveys will not take long. We already have a lot of information," Sujarit said. [In other words, we don't give a damn about anyone's concerns and push it through.]

Well, Even though ther is a potential for gerrymandering as well to lanch the leader's pet project, I got even hair raising story that:

The plan for New Province is to IMPRISON His majesty as well as members of Roya Family for Life in Klai Kangwon Palace ... so the Chekacon send Assasins to commit regicide ... so they can Declare Republican Regiome... ... and they They will Sell OUT the country for theri own gains

What's Chekacon? It sounds like it might be a Secret Police or an ISOC offshoot.

Ever since the Temasek-Shin deal, I've been suggesting annexing Singapore as Thailand's 77th province. It would end the "foreigners are taking over" gripe as Singapore would now be Thai, and the Singaporeans are desperate to run a real country anyway. Wouldn't it be fun to see a TRT vs. PAP showdown?

:-), but just barely!
