Not sure if I'm putting this thread under the right heading.. but its the most appropriate one I could find.
Here are some pics of a newly modified pedestrian bridge on Borom Rachachonanee Road (on the way to Nakorn Pathom from Bangkok). A regular bridge was transformed within about 2 months into what you can now see in the pictures.

If anyone else has seen any other bridges similar to this then please post here also.

There is a pedestrian bridge of the same design being constructed and nearly completed across Phahon Yothin Rd. (Hwy. no. 1) at KM 42 in front of Thammasat University Hospital--near the northernmost entrance to Thammasat University, Rangsit Campus, and the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in the town of Tha Khlong, Khlong Luang district, Pathum Thani province.

P.S. KM 42 signifies that it is 42 km. away from Democracy Monument, the nominal starting point of every primary highway in Thailand. However, the real starting point of Phahon Yothin Rd. (National Highway no. 1 and part of Asian Highway no. A2) is at Victory Monument, which is about 4 km. away from Democracy Monument

So maybe these bridges are being built on the major roads going in/out of Bangkok ... Both are near the borders of Bangkok.

I saw one on Rama IX / the Suvarnabhumi Airport Expressway / Chonburi Motorway (not sure what it is called at that location), in the section between Sri Nakharin Road and the Eastern Outer Ring Road.

Maybe 3 km east of the Sri Nakharin Interchange. (That is, of course, nowhere near the Bangkok provincial boundary - unless the new airport province becomes a reality.) (The one on Phahonyothin mentioned above isn't, either - that's actually deep in Pathum Thani, some 15 km north of the border....)

I saw the one mentioned by ncr also. It's on the Bangkok-Chonburi Motorway (Motorway no.7) on the way to Bangkok Suvarnabhumi International Airport. The sign on the bridge reads "Commemorating the 60th anniversary of His Majesty the King's accession to the Throne". Therefore, I think these bridges are built as gates to Bangkok on major highways to commemorate this auspicious occasion.
