BTSC decided to terminate Shuttle bus service after September 1, 2006 due to fuel hike and continuign nagging police who ask for dailty bribery

Even worse, No Mroe 15-trip for 30 days ... the replacement is 20-trip within 30 days ... worse still the hike of 30-day pass ..

Old Rates New Rates
15 trip 30 trip 20 trip 30 trip
Adult 300 Baht 540 Baht 440 Baht 600 Baht
Student 240 Baht 420 Baht 300 Baht 450 Baht

I am not surprised - I rarely see these buses and when I do they always seem empty.

How often are the shuttles supposed to run? As it happens I may actually be in a position to use one of them next week -- only problem is that I've never actually seen one on the posted route!

I find it impossible to get a str8 answer on the shuttle schedule. I would probably miss it if I had gotten to use it.

the one that went to the WongWien yai (predating the extension to Thonburi) was nearly always VERY full to near BTA-bursting capacity, with no real alternative either on the BMTA, at least from WWyai itself.

I am told that the All-Seasons shuttle still runs - is this so?

That would be a first, as my friends staying at the Conrad regularly bitch about the BTS shuttle service being virtually non-existent...

One ought not to confuse lethargy with strategy ... the question is has the service been cancelled or does it just look like it?

Dailynews - Nov 1, 2006

Now, BTS has made an announcement that they will have to hike the fare rate by 5 Baht for the section from 10 to 35 Baht to 15 to 40 Baht. Only the 40-Baht section remain the same.

For thr case of Thonburi extenson, this new rate will be applied ... and BTS has to to give 10 Baht for each trip to BMA as a payment for Taksin extension ....

You can pretty much figure what is going on behind closed doors here. Frozen fares might garner more badly-needed support for PPP by Bangkokians. But this article is a complete balls-up by the Bangkok Post. As the article underneath says, BMCL controls the SUBWAY, NOT the Skytrain!:

BTS agrees to retain fares until 2009

(BangkokPost.com) - Transport Minister Santi Prompan has ordered that fares on the BTS skytrain remain unchanged until the end of this year.

The Bangkok Metro Co Ltd (BMCL), operator of the BTS skytrain, was asked to freeze fares until December 31 for the sake of commuters, even though an agreed deadline of for BMCL fares to go up was initially set for July 4.

BMCL authorities have agreed to the request, saying it would be willing to co-operate with the government. A meeting to discuss the issue in greater detail will take place on April 8.

BMCL pegs subway fares until Dec 31

Transport Minister Santi Phromphat (สันติ พร้อมพัฒน์) instructs the Bangkok Metro Plc or BMCL to peg the prices of subway fares until December 31st.

The minister says the company, which is the subway’s concessionaire, can increase the fares on January 1st onward although the requirement on fare pegging will be due on July 4th this year.

BMCL will submit details of the fare pegging to the Cabinet meeting on April 8th.

The fare increase will be dependent on consumer index which stays at 3.8% at present. Therefore, the new fares are expected to be around 16-41 baht, increased from 15-39 baht. As for other kinds of mass transportation, the ministry will call a meeting with the operators to discuss fare raises after April.

is this really new, or just an increase, as I already receive a 2-5 baht discount on my value added card for each journey? Given that the BTS is already packed at peak times I'm not sure that the capacity is there for too many extra pax. Perhaps an off peak incentive may help.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT Discounts for fares on BTS skytrain AMORNRAT MAHITTHIROOK Bkk Post 27/05/08
Passengers on the BTS skytrain have been offered a 20% discount on value-added tickets in the hope of attracting more commuters.

The offer, to run from June 1 to Aug 31, will apply to the SKY Smart Pass, a ticket that requires holders to regularly deposit money to keep the card valid. The discount will reduce fares from between 15 and 40 baht to between 12 and 32 baht, which means eligible passengers can save three to eight baht per trip.

The company, which operates the elevated train over a 23km route in central Bangkok, said the fare reduction was possible because its electric trains, unlike buses, have not been seriously affected by surging oil prices. ''We hope our discount will attract those who have never or rarely used public transport to turn to electric trains,'' said Anat Arbhabhirama, an adviser to the BTS board. It was hoped more people would be encouraged to use the service, offsetting the effect of the discount on company revenues. The company has also decided to freeze fares for other types of tickets, including 30-day passes for students.

The Central Administrative Court yesterday yesterday postponed its ruling on a petition against bus fare hikes until today. The petition was filed by the leader of a consumer network, Boonchai Rungruengpaisansuk, who claims the increase is unfair. His group said surging fuel prices should not be cited as a reason to increase city bus fares because two third of the 3,500 buses run on NGV, or natural gas for vehicles, which is less expensive.

The Central Land Transport Committee has allowed private bus operators to increase fares by 1.5 baht for non-airconditioned buses and one baht for airconditioned and mini-buses. The Bangkok Mass Transit Authority has put the fare rise on hold for state-run buses. The transport committee would follow the judges' ruling, said committee member Ronayut Tangruamsap, who is also deputy chief of the Land Transport Department.
