View Full Version : Working in Thailand
Supposing that you were born in Thailand and moved to Europe at the age of 9 because your mother is married to a Europian. You grew up and studied there. You can speak fluently french, german, english (and you have become more farang than thai  ). You can speak, read and write thai, although with the level of a 3st year primary pupil. You love Thailand a lot. You miss your friends and family who live there. When you have finished your study, you wish to come back to Thailand, work and live there. Althought you hesitate because you don't master the language and you don't really know Thailand. Some relatives say: have success and get rich, other say: come back to us.
What would you choose?
It depends on your age, career qualifications and work experience. If you have already got a good career going, stay where you are unless you can make more here in the same sector. Don't be tempted to teach English in Thailand! It's a complete dead-end career-wise.
Am I alone in believing that most of the TESOL/TEFL work & training here is a huge scam!? I suppose it's OK if you want to take a short break after uni.

Language alone isn't enough. But master a specialized field and master a language, and employers will be tripping over themselves to hire you.
Actually I'm an IT student in Luxembourg. I don't know if the IT sector is flourishing in Thailand. Working in Luxembourg would be gold farming and life is good here. On the other hand, I like the life in Thailand and I would like to discover all the things that I have miss there during my stay in Luxembourg. I know, I am pathetic :p . I think it's a good idea to take a short break after uni.
p.s. thanks for your advices GWR and jpatokal
