Why on earth would you want a Fishing Cat ( Felis (Prionailurus) viverrina ) as a pet?

The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species lists the Fishing Cat on Appendix II which strictly regulates international commerce.

If you are in Thailand you can see Fishing Cats at Khao Khiew Open Zoo; they are quite difficult to raise in captivity, although somewhat easier than the related Clouded Leopard, however they are definitely NOT suitable as a pet or easy to look after by someone without extensive knowledge of the breed or wild cats in general.

Paul, the Fishing cat will be used to help with adding new bloodlines to our breeding afforts here in the United States. The cats are not kept as pets. Thanks for your concerns.

Nonsense.

If you are running a proper breeding affort (sic) you would know of the status of the animal under CITES, would have contact and co-operation with other sanctioned breeding facilities in the U.S and elsewhere and would certainly have no need to Post on a Forum such as this asking .........

"Maybe someone can get me the contact infomation (sic) of a pet store"

Paul, I was told that the cats were sold in animal markets and some shady pet stores. I do have contacts in the US but, bloodlines are to close. The studbook is kept at the Riverbanks Zoo in South Carolina. I was trying to help our cause with the Species Ehancement project and as well help out a cat that maybe in a bad situation. I don't understand your hositility. I have a friend who has a female but, no male to mate with. When animals come up they go to capitive breeders and Zoos very fast. It's hard to get a male and female to bond and mate. Once they do they stay together awhile. why the mean attitude?

Thank you all for your private messages. We have found 3 cats in North Sumatra ( 2 males/1 female ). They were being sold in a animal market. We are in the process of obtaining transport documents. Thanks again.

Well, andrew, I guess an appropriate suggestion would be to communicate through your website. It would definately give more credibility to your statement, as you know, The US doesn't let cats come in without a proper liscense, or how some animal pass---forgot what it was called.
