In November and December each year all the major US and European papers will have articles like this touting the tourist season... You'll also notice that the trend in most of these articles is 'funky' tourism--first-person accounts of walking around with a backpack and noticing the hurly burly of the city.

Last week, a popular american TV show, the Saturday Night Live, did a couple of sketches poking fun at Bangkok and Thailand. Well, it was not that nasty. Kind of funny, I'd rather say.
