A farang friend gave me a very indicative idea of what a salary in a Thai University (Chula) would be for teaching foreign language. She said, 55000 Bath/mo.

Does anybody have reliable information on such matters? Is the above salary a realistic figure? Does anybody know how many hours a University farang teacher actually teaches, if the months-off are paid, if there are benefits for medical care, lodging, etc....?

Besides that, once one is accepted by a Thai institution (Uni or school), are the procedures for the Visa relatively simple?

THANK YOU

You might want to mosey on over to http://www.ajarn.com with these questions. 55, 000 Baht would be comparatively generous in my estimation; but Chula is a top-flight Thai uni, which will almost certainly have much rather more exacting standards than most. But the 'ajarns' will answer this question much better than I can; and you might even get input from a previous Chula ajarn. The Visa thing is never entirely simple; although larger unis will have staff dedicated entirely to visas & work permits. And 'Chula' should be able to secure these for any teacher that they believe is suited to the job.
