In reference to the Post story on closing Rama 1 to traffic (http://www.bangkokpost.com/News/09Jan2006_news16.php) and the briefer Nation article referenced on 2Bangkok:

While I think it would be great to close this section to traffic, it also seems like this would cause some major traffic flow problems as well. Clearly there should have been a (better?) traffic study done BEFORE they actually built such a huge traffic draw. I assume that this is a short-term solution while something more permenant is worked out. It seems a more appropriate solution may be to redesign or relocate the parking entrances and/or provide some real time info to drivers as to where there is available parking. However, I'll be one of the first to dance on Rama 1 when there is no private vehicle traffic.

I'm not clear on exactly where the closure would take effect. I can't make out Pong Pra Ram on my map and am not familiar with the references to Charoen Phon, Pathumwan, and Chaloem Phao. would this essentially close Rama 1 from Phaya Thai to Ratchadamri? If so, what would happen to all the other access points to Rama 1 like Dunant and the many small sois?

As I am in Uk at present, from whence does this story promulgate?

As far as my palmtop will inform me:

>Ratchaprasong (ATC003) is Rama I/Ploenchit/Rajdamri junction at Central World Plaza

>Chaleom Phao (ATC041) is Rama I/Henri Dunant junction

>Chareon Phon (ATC087) is Rama I/Banthat Thong junction

I, therefore, surmise that ....

>Patumwan is Rama I/Phayathai junction

>Pong Phra Ram is Rama I/Rama VI junction

... but I could be wrong!
