Strange Building near Muang Thong Thani

As we were leaving the Muang Thong Thani place I saw a very strange building. I had seen it before from the airplane and also from the expressway. Nobody who I asked knows what it is. At the restaurant, which is right across from the building we were told that it was for the "Supreme Commander". The building is in the middle of a military complex, but it is not hidden. The center of the project looks like a large American football standing on end, or a fat rocket ship. There are buildings with odd structures on the top, sort of sculptural, maybe for air conditioning. If I would guess, without any knowledge, I would have thought that the building was a futuristic university or an amusement park. In any case, until I get better information, it is the building for the "Supreme Commander". Anybody can see the building, it is near Muang Thong Thani, and I saw it when we were driving to Nakhon Nayok.

We went from STOU by the Impact Center and through the popular condominium area, we then drove for about ten minutes and people said the sign for the area was a military base. The building was there. I saw it also, when we were in a van on the expressway going to Nakon Nayok. I am using dial up and when I try to use Google Earth it takes for ever. I hope this helps. The building really looks like an amusement park or possibly a university, the architecture is ambitious and very sculptural. It is odd to me that people do not know what it is.

Perhaps the (Old) Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where Farangs go to get marriage clearance. It's certainly near Supreme Command. Both are are South of Chaeng Watthana Road, but (Old) MOFA is just off it; whereas Supreme Command is more set back off the road. It's architecture is a bit wacky. I believe there's a picture on one of their websites, so I'll look for it. It seems to suffer badly from aquifer subsidence. In fact, I suspect that is why they have moved some fuctions to another more central location.

It is a building just being constructed. The Large building in the center, I mean really large, is like the top on an American Football on end. I would guess 5 stories tall. It really stands out fromt he expressway. I also saw it when we were coming in to land in August. It looks like, but I am not sure, that it is being made of metal.

I think I may have seen the structure you mentioned from the 2nd-stage expressway, about 2-3km north of MTT (looking east).

Does that seem like the approximate location? If so, I'll exit at Sri Saman one of these days to see if I can get up close and dig up more info.

If that strange building is in the Northeast of Muangthong Thani, it must be teh new training center withing Supreme Commander HQ

If that strange buildign is on the Southwast of Muangthogn Thani, it must be Consulsection of Ministry of Foreign Affairs

I know we went under the main powerlines on our way there. I am guessing it is North East. I do not know my directions well. I am used to mountains to orientate myself. Does anybody have any pictures? The building is very distinctive. I thought it was a University, so maybe it is the training center.

I think it's probably the building under construction just off Songprapha Rd. in Bangkok's Don Mueang District, near Srisaman expressway interchange. The building is visible from the Udorn Ratthaya Expressway (Northern Expressway), especially from the inbound lanes. Its location is just east of Khlong Prapa (Waterworks Canal) behind a residential estate. Therefore the building is located on the northeast side with respect to Muang Thong Thani.

In my opinion, the building is an eyesore, rather than a majestic landmark.

It the buildign is at Song Prapha, it must be the trainign center of Supreme Commander HQ

Whether an eye sore or not, it sure is strange looking and ambitious in it's own way. It is not boring. Does anybody have any pictures?

I heard before that a new research center was under construction somewhere in Rangsit area. It is headed by (actually, I can't remember his name) Dr. Muang-man (?).

He wrote some books about UFO stuff. Some said that center was for extra terrestrial study just like SETI in US.

Can anyone confirm this? Is that the place we are talking about?

Could someone please post a photo of this mysterious building/complex? Reading the thread has made me so curious it's gonna drive me crazy sooner or later! :eek: ;)
