I just purchased the new edition of the Bangkok Guide Bus Routes Map (4th Ed.) and was surprised to see that there appears to be 5 new bridges proposed to cross mae nam Chao Phraya.(This is excluding the new Pakret bridge, 'Megabridge' and Southern by-pass)..

Running north to south, with descriptions east to west, the map shows the following;
1) A new bridge running from Thannon Nonthburi, just south of thannon Rewadi intersection, and crossing the river on the north side of Kanchana Phisek Park to join a new road linking south to Thannon Thanami Nothaburi,

2) A new bridge linking Thannon Thahan running directly over Kaik Kai Pier to Thannon Charan Sanit Wong (Inner ring road) and then proceeding to the railway line for what I assume will be the new western expressway,

3) A new bridge east of Memorial bridge linking Thannon Ratchawong (SE chinatown area) running directly over Dindaeng Pier to a new road south to Thannon Somdet Chaophraya,

4) A new bridge connecting Thannon Maha Phruk Tharam (which runs south from Hua Lamphong on the east side of the klong) to cross the river and connect to Thannon Lat Ya . I find it hard to see where the land is available for this alignment given the historic building in the area. Perhaps Bangkoks first cross-river tunnel? Note: Actually this is where the SRT red Machachai line will also need to run.

5) A new bridge linking Thannon Chan from Thannon Charoen Krung intersection and crossing the river directly over/thru Wat Sawetta Chat to Thannon Charoen Nakhon where soi 28 is.

Anyone have any info?

Is there still no info on any of these bridges?

Does BMA & Nontha Buri Province (for the first) not have them listed in a wroks schedule?

I think these projects will be handled by the Department of Rural Roads, Ministry of Transportation(formerly part of the Department of Public Works, Ministry of Interior), which oversees most of the bridges across the River--except for Rama VI Bridge (overseen by the State Railway), Rama VIII Bridge (overseen by the BMA), and Rama IX Bridge (overseen by the Expressway Authority). The department has expertise in building bridges and is traditionally given the task.

BMA to revive 4 Chao Phraya bridge projects worth B10bnBKK Post 06/06/07

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is reviving four Chao Phraya bridge projects worth over 10 billion baht and looking for consultancy firms to study their feasibility. According to Chumpol Sampaopol, deputy public works director of the BMA, the first bridge, estimated to cost one billion baht, will cross the Chao Phraya river between Ratchawong and Din Daeng piers.

The second bridge, costing 2.4 billion baht, will cross between Lat Ya and Maha Phruttharam roads. The third bridge, at 3.2 billion baht, will cross between Chan and Charoen Nakhon roads, and the fourth bridge, at 4.4 billion baht, will cross between the Kiakkai area and Bang Phlad district.

The BMA will hire four consultancies to study the four bridges. The combined study budget is set at 191 million baht. The BMA will select the consultancies in a few months and they will spend eight months concluding their studies, which will include the projects' feasibility, the exact costs and the impact on the owners of properties to be expropriated.

Mr Chumpol said the state would pay all the costs of the bridges. The projects were suspended because the BMA was earlier involved in bid-rigging scandals for 16 road projects, faced opposition to property expropriation and had to deal with duplication issues among some electric railway extension routes.

Do we really need more bridges?

All they do is turn underused roads which lead to them into traffic jams.

The 10 Billion Baht is better spent on the Skytrain.

probbaly, they have not been familiar with that Megabridge yuet ... it takes several year until more patronage will be high .... Even though mopst local people who go across Prapadaeng and Poochao Samingphrai DO use that bridge ... The connection with expressway and outer ring road will help .... :p
