A reader writes: "Hello, I'm visiting Bangkok in januari 2006 in 2 months and I collect coins. now I would like to know where I can buy new and old coins in Bangkok to expand my private collection. please help me and if it is possible send me an address or something like that, where to visit a "coin shop" in Bangkok sow I can buy new and old coins of Thailand and maybe Birma and Singapore."

One place I know of is in front of the GPO on Saturday morning... Anyone know any other place?

There were/are a couple on New Road between the GPO and Surriwong.
Also one in Mah Boon Kong [spell?] ground floor. Also seem to recall there was another in WTC 4th floor near Siam Stamps. Sorry can't recall their names.

There is a Thai Philatelic [stamps] Society [or similar name] so perhaps there is a numismatic [coin] society /club.

Somewhere in BKK is the Coin Museum - maybe they have a dealer list or the Society's contact.

With old coins, always pays to be on the lookout for fakes/replicas

Apologises for the rather vague info, but hopefully will help to track down the coin shops

oops. Let's try "between the GPO and Silom"

That might make geographical sense:)

Chatuchak Weekend market woudl be okay ... even though I don't reccommend the amulet market at Tha Phrachan

IIRC, there's a coinage museum in the Grand Palace-Wat Phra Kaew compound that has a souvenir shop selling the more recent coins, ordinary and commemorative.

Again, here's another recommendation for the GPO area.
