It might be a good idea to make a prominent link from the gem scam page to this:

http://www.thailandtravel.or.jp/shoppin/safe.html

Run by TAT's Japan bureau, it's a Japanese-language page on spotting and avoiding gem scams, including -- of course! -- a six-panel manga-style comic on what happens if you fall into the clutches of the bad guys.

Cut'n'paste this for the link name: 宝石詐欺にあわないために

Cool! Lovely drawings.

But - does TAT also have something like this for farangs, or do they only bother about their Japanese visitors' well-being??? (Do that many Japanese fall prey to the gems scam anyway?)

(I remember vaguely 2B once mentioned some brochure warning tourists about possible dangers that was distributed at the airport, but forgot the contents.)

Actually the comic is copied from the Chikyu no Arukikata (basically the Japanese Lonely Planet) Bangkok 2002-2003 guide, with acknowledgement and credits at the bottom of the page. But you're right, I just did a Google search for "site:tourismthailand.org scam" and it comes back with zero hits...
