Well, it seems Moscow is trying to become Europe's skyscraper capital. Amazing developments there.

Moscow building overview (http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/ci/bu/sk/li/?id=100839&bt=2&ht=2&sro=1) at Emporis.

Federation Tower here (http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/bu/?id=200239), and also here (http://www.skyscraperpage.com/cities/?buildingID=24236). More nice renderings here (http://www.emporis.com/en/il/im/?id=353554) and here (http://www.emporis.com/en/il/im/?id=337652).

But actually the title of "Europe's tallest" already went to Moscow after the (rather cheesy) Triumph Palace (http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/bu/?id=102052) (and here (http://www.skyscraperpage.com/cities/?buildingID=8961)) was topped out. It's 5m higher than Commerzbank Zentrale (http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/bu/?id=109691) in Frankfurt. At least if you count the spire. A picture (http://www.emporis.com/en/il/im/?id=295298) of the (unfinished) structure. And 3 buildings still higher than that are currently under construction in the Russian Capital (including said Federation Tower).

On top of that, there's a proposal for a 648m "Russia Tower" that seems to have a good chance to be realized. Won't be the world's tallest, seeing the construction of Burj Dubai, but nonetheless.....: Emporis (http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/bu/?id=102051) and Skyscraperpage (http://www.skyscraperpage.com/cities/?buildingID=1575)

BTW, that BBC story had a link to another story about the planned demolition (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/3552520.stm) of the Rossiya Hotel (http://www.skyscraperpage.com/cities/?buildingID=13839) next to the Red Square. Well, it won't be a real loss ;) , though I have some slightly nostalgic feelings for this megalomaniac Soviet style hotel bunker because I once stayed there in 1994......

Interesting links Nil. I know that the Moscow Tower by SOM has been on the drawing board since the early 90s. It would still be impressive if they built it :)
